Oh right lore

What Happened to Kronar?

Kronar was established by a group of dissidents from the TwitteX Empire that sought to research unrestricted genetic modification on non-human lifeforms. This practice was heavily frowned upon due to its perceived association with the rival StarB Empire.

The colony was the first permanent TwitteX settlement in what is now the Cassopeian sector, and Amber Wyss was the first child born in that territory.

While initially promising, the colony encountered several setbacks, the most impactful of which involved bio-weapons research. The experiment, which attempted to create a weed that would breed with crops to produce inedible offspring, was a massive success. Unfortunately, the weed was accidentally introduced into the colony’s own food supply, completely destroying the viability of all plants involved. The colony survived, but switching to a mushroom-based diet was not popular with the residents.

The colony was divided into two classes - the scientists and the workers. The workers, who were more numerous, were responsible for the upkeep of the colony, while the scientists performed resesrch.

This class divide only widened as time progressed, especially after the weed incident. Food supplies began to dwindle, and there accusations that the scientists were stockpiling food for themselves.

After the disappearances of several protestors, the workers stole the only space-capable craft on Kronar and left for locations unknown. The scientists, who were unable to run the colony by themselves, performed a desperate experiment in which they tried to store their minds to the cloud. Unfortunately, the power went out halfway through the transfer process, killing them all.

What Happened to the Second Expedition?

Expedition Logs

Log: 5.27.2902.

A man peers into the screen, frowning. “Is this on?” he asked, giving the camera a very close view of his left eye. It’s brown.

“You tell me, computer boy,” a older male voice called.

The first man frowned and reached past the screen.

Log: 5.27.2902 (2).

“Ahem,” the younger man stood in front of the camera. Now that his face isn’t two inches away from the camera, you can see he’s wearing a blue jacket and nondescript black pants. He’s young, with sandy yellow hair and a ratty mustache. “As I was saying, we encountered some rubble during our investigation of the power plant, so we’re going to restore power to the colony using our own gen-.”

“Milton!” a voice squawked from a device clipped to his shoulder. “Why do I get the feeling you’re not in position?”

“I’m almost there!” Milton hurriedly replied. He turned back to the camera. “Sorry, boss is calling. One sec.”

He reached toward the camera.

–end file–

Log: 5.27.2902 (3)

Milton panned the camera around to show familiar shelves of servers and computer terminals, lit only by some small portable lights attached to the walls. “So my team’s trying to run power from our generators to the Archive. I’m in here so they’ll know if it worked.”

Milton turned the camera back to show the video feed. “If they do it right, we should-”

The overhead lights turned on. Milton cheered and reached for the comm on his shoulder. “It worked!”

Nobody replied.

Milton frowned and tapped his comm again. “Guys? You reading me?”

The comm squawked, interspersed with static. “Milton, don’t trust anyone! You need to barricade the- -went crazy, has everyone at gun-” A laser burst rang out, followed by a soft thump.

Milton desperately hit the comm. “Dunne? Dunne, are you there?”

The comm was silent. Milton continued frantically calling out names, to no avail. Finally, he darted away from the camera’s field of view.

–end file–

Log: 6.4.2902

Milton stared into the camera. His hair is unkempt, and his face is thin. “I ran out of water yesterday and food five days ago. I’m not going to make it if I stay here.”

He coughed. “There’s a hidden tunnel I found, behind one of the shelves. I’m going to see if it leads outside. Maybe I can sneak to the ship and escape.”

He chuckled morbidly. “Better than dying here, I guess. Still don’t really know what happened. Hopefully whoever’s watching this can figure out who killed the Second Expedition to Kronar. And if you can, tell my parents I love 'em. Milton Greene, signing off.”

He reached toward the camera.

–end file–

This was a case where Jean was an unreliable narrator - while all of them were on the Second Expedition, there was one more member who ultimately betrayed and killed them - “Darius Layton.”

This was Arius under a pseudonym. After killing the rest of the party (except Milton, who died of hunger instead), he tossed the bodies into the Ravine and left. Chava later found the skeletons.

Milton rigged the door to explode in case ‘Darius’ tried to force his way in.

After his last recording, Milton went into the Tunnel, where he encountered Amber.

I was considering sending like a final like premade message to the datapads or whatever that would’ve been automatically sent out like right before the radio got murdered (but like later in the thread bc duh) but I couldn’t think of anything particularly good to put for it

Basic Description

Name: Kary Hargeist the Tinkering Luddite
Pronouns: She/Her
Height:1.55m
Weight: 63kgs

Occupation: Scrap/Droid Hunter
What’s your character’s position on this expedition?
Salvage Expert

Backstory:
Leona Warnerheist spent alot of time protecting her family against an agentic misaligned superAI taking over her homeplanet of Veneruseine that continues to plague humanity by forcing them to give away and continue to extract all their objects whenever metalic, plastic or even remotely mineralic. Humans are controlled closely by droid guardians to prevent an uprising. Everything electronic managed to get rerouted to its own connection, hacking all devices, making them unsafe for fugitives.

She knows how to assassinate such droids and reuse its parts. Once in a mission liberating an enslaved mine, she came across experimental chemicals with her sister, but got departed, needing the latter to call for help due to their circumstances they were with Leona injured. However when sister came back with backup, she was nowhere to be found.

She mysteriously came across Blanchett somewhere that was far away from her actual planet. Once asked about her whereabouts or name, she was too unspecific on the details, it almost seemed she didn’t have a big clue, ultimately on her name she gave Kary Hargeist. Gossiped to be a maniac when it came to robots and with a consistent craze behind her eyes despite what an image she has on her might suggest.

Fragmentation

Mass-production is basic. Their weaknesses even more so.
(Passive) - Stats are increased for the purposes of doing a damaging action towards mechanoids or sabotaging adversial technology.

Tinktank

Circuit here, bolt here, setting there. EMP done, mechs undone.
(Active) - Upgrade objects, increase their utility or add a new functionality. You may also downgrade instead. This ability is more effective if the object has already been upgraded.

Circuit Breaker

You rarely see engineers on the field! Perceive and learn!
(Passive) - You start the game with an EMP Gun (see inventory for details) and a Multitool. Additionally, whenever a hostile robot/inorganic construct is destroyed, you gain 3 energy.

Stroke of Genius

Eureka!
(Triggered) - You will occasionally be given ideas and suggestions for how to improve your equipment.

Reverse Engineer

This looks familiar.
(Passive) - You have an increased understanding of old technology and its uses. Encountering old technology will > make it easier for you to build it yourself.

Escape Kronar with your life.

I am happy with how Kary turned out, but a little dissapointed I don’t really know how to act in character properly. I did make her suspect her teammates whenever they are secret robots but I didn’t have a sonar!
She is meant to be problematic but I didn’t act on that to not cause problems OOC, but she did constantly kept a close eye on KURI and THEODOR… if only I was awake to act on that in time.
Her character is not at all streamlined, but when it comes to more personal details, she’s really bemused and curious of Pius and Huxley and vaguely remind her of the people she forgot about. Ironically I think that Leona would only like to genuinely keep in contact with Aisha however she never once interacted with them properly (sorry Ash!!!). On this list would’ve been Arius too but uhh yeah, Arius =/= Allyus. And lastly she’s particularly unsettled by both KURI and THEODOR, for the former, because she seems to still have semblances of humanity, but it’s all fake as she lost all emotions and she did genuienly say some unsettling stuff at times and for the latter she more or less assumes the same, she has mixed feelings on the experiment thing he just did.

She could’ve had a reallllyyy nice custom made blaster if PortalRadio wasn’t scraped beyond all recognision.

i appreciate zone’s decision to play a villain; as those are solemn found among player characters in any reasonable way

fighting him and jean was fine but huxley was never at any risk, and Huxley completely obliterating him was fun in the moment
i liked how she got to have her moments with all three of the actual antagonists (counting radio, although thats more debatable), and how she interacted with each in their fights (where she was at the height of her ego, and therefore one of the better parts of her character) was really funny

the fakeout “jean versus huxley” by loudly taunting him was great, and she served decently well narratively when explaining some actions jean made (such as not immediately clammering on board with the crew and instead getting distracted by the showboat who’s been egging him and his minion and another robot on for the past few hours

i really like huxley’s ending, she’s not getting any better despite being really young, but she’s too egotistical to really get help from nearly anyone, especially after the expedition

i’ll have an epilogue up sometime this week

Ensure Dr. Jean Blanchett escapes Kronar alive. Completing this condition allows you to win even if you fail to escape.

I redacted the...

I redacted the beginning part of his lore since it has a small impact on his epilogue. (Though, some of you probably already have an inkling as to what this little secret might entail.)

I got +1 ACC...

I got +1 ACC after finding the Power Plant for the first time, and I really wished I could explore the world more, but due to the things within my reach (e.g., my build as a tank, and my character as a bodyguard) and the things outside (e.g., timezones and me knocked out due to exhaustion), I unfortunately just. could. not. fulfill my explorer needs this time.

My stats ended up...

My stats ended up like that because I noticed that 70 is divisible by 10 so I distributed 10 points to my stats and multiplied all by 7. It was a pain to see y’all do extra gimmicks that requires high ACC to notice at the beginning of the game (at the hangar and at the ship).

I was so curious what y’all were saying, but I didn’t open (a vast majority) of them because I wished to stay in character and untainted by possessing meta knowledge. For better or worse, as time passed, I ended up getting used to ignoring the spoilers.

My personal abilities were...

My personal abilities were references to Darkest Dungeon’s Man-at-Arms (his ability and quote), One Punch Man’s Genos (Incinerate), and Dr. Who’s Daleks (Annihilate. Annihilate. Annihilate.) Though the energy blast discharge was more of a reference to Iron Man’s blast rather than the flavor references.

I do have a minor regret not being able to say the names of the abilities like Radio did (because I think that calling out ability names while using them is cool sometimes if they are unspammable), but FWIW I think it’s better this way since it fits Arius’ character more to just. stay silent as he attacks.

@Squirrel2412 How much would Fragmentation bump my damage and how much energy would I drain from Zone with my EMP blaster? :see_no_evil:

Enough to ruin his energy blast strat (because that one relied heavily on managing NRG).

As for the damage, it probably would’ve hit for enough HP to tip the scales in your favor even if I were to Ash/Aisha were to fail dodging Arius’ second energy blast.

I love favored enemy strats
