(concern)
the looming and ominous rolls for random encounters
The first couple hours of the trip back are reasonably calm. Youâre not the only travelers on the road; fewer than at some times of year, when so many people are occupied with planting, but some people are still bringing goods south to market or heading down to buy items they urgently need, albeit mostly those who arenât strong enough to operate a plow. A couple of them do inquire delicately as to why you have someone in manacles, but (whether they believe it or whether they simply donât think they can take you in a fight) none of them give you any trouble.
Still, when youâre about halfway between Whistle Creek and the village just before it, you notice a two-wheeled handcart stopped by the side of the road, with a pair of older children standing by it, one of whom is crying. The cart itself seems to be carrying undyed wool fabric.
Drakor focused on the children.
(what do they look like?)

Canary looks at the children in anxious concern, trying not to let the fact she did look ring true on her face.
I will sense motive to attempt to determine if this is a setup of some variety. (If this doesnât work donât process)

I do not envy your dice luck atlas
if ameliaâs saying that you know itâs bad
(i find my luck has been pretty middling so far, just with a long spree of really bad rolls on things that ultimately donât matter that much)
Theyâre both human, around twelve years old, though if you had to guess youâd guess that the boy (the one whoâs crying) is a little younger and the girl is a little older. Theyâre wearing woolen clothing dyed brown with slight red undertones, and they both have light brown, curly hair, his coming down past his ears and hers to her shoulders. The girl is wearing a necklace, consisting of a leather cord with a large tooth (clearly nonhuman) hanging from it.
these sure are some kids. they have a cart!
It doesnât seem like a setup; they seem to be genuinely distressed (and not, like, monsters taking on the appearance of children, or anything like that). However, it doesnât seem like the girl is responding very much to her brotherâs crying, if that makes sense? Like, she can clearly tell that he is crying, and she keeps doing something with her hands for some reason, but she doesnât seem to notice when he starts crying more loudly.
(are we surrounded by trees?)
Wanderer tells the group about his intuition on the matter.
