(presuming arius is following wanderer so its just me)

Drakor circled the house, looking for any tracks leading away from it.

Zelsh, it’s hard to tell when such a slippery liar as this is telling the truth and when he’s lying. But Rika and Wanderer, both of you get the strong impression that he’s trying to deceive you — technically his words weren’t an outright lie, since he asked a question rather than making a statement, but he clearly intended you to come away with a false impression. But you also get the sense that he intends this to be a “good point,” even though it isn’t; you’d guess the answer isn’t quite as straightforward as “he just thinks Flauros is awesome and put up the symbol because he wanted to venerate him”.

((I have yet to read more-recent posts, but I refuse to have Arius go through another trial. He’ll join Drakor wherever.))

“So you did place it. Thank you for your openness.” Paprika widens her eyes and her smile as she looks downward. “And you proceeded to erase it, presumably to destroy the evidence, despite your own footprints remaining outside the cellar.”

Under ordinary circumstances, Paprika would have been shaken (ha) by this evidence of her earlier theory’s failure. However, it’s hard to feel insecure while standing over an injured adult man of the Watch and making him grovel. She adjusts her stance and “accidentally” nudges him with her foot just a little.

“What do you gain from simulating Flauros cult activity? Does it merely bring you an opportunity for honor in the Watch?”

“You think I was the one who called in the tip?”

His left hand tightens into a clenched fist. Clearly, something about that situation is upsetting to him.

“So you’re saying that you didn’t call in the tip?” Zelsh asked.

“Of course not! I had no reason to— I mean, I didn’t know about the cult.” He sucks in a breath. “Cultists are all ignorant fools anyway. They’d never have done any real damage.”

“It’s a possibility. The tip was called in with a quite unusual method, and I’m told they feared the person who was leading the cult. Fearing a report to the Watch means distrust of its members. Either you called it in or you’re already under suspicion, right? Your companion seemed to feel you were acting oddly.”

Paprika kept her gaze steady and condescending, just as the guard had done to her.

“I don’t care one bit about demon cults or a lack thereof. They don’t affect me. I only want to know the truth.”
