There’s no way to be 100% certain of someone’s alignment. You simply have to either have faith in your own reads, and/or follow other players’ reads.

As for hammers… What’s the point of voting if all you do with it is wait until you can end the day? If everyone were to go by that logic, would anyone even vote at all outside of EOD?

I’m not fully caught up - I’ve read most of the posts but have not allocated proper time to reflect on them. Nor would I say I have a red that I’m prepared to post.

That being said, I feel like gummybear is only being strung up here because they have the most posts.

Could you bring me in the loop here please? Is Neon’s posting like this all game?

If Neon does post like this usually, I would wager that they would be more nervous as mafia, or trying to at least appear more like they’re asserting their typical town character. If that makes sense.

However, I myself don’t have the knowledge to judge that logic.

he’s a wildcard tbh, so i have no idea how to characterize his posting

are you trying to say you think he’s either town or mafia trying to act like he’s town?

It’s hard to believe gummy is approaching the early game like mafia would:

I believe the spontaneity of gummy’s mind concluding that they’re towny from this and making a joke about it is difficult to fake. It comes from a genuine (if subconscious) thought of ā€œI did what Soweli asked me to before she asked, and this is something that only a villager would do.ā€ I find the underlined portion unlikely for a wolf to add on - a wolf may be more likely to joke about just typing fast in general here rather than seeing it as a beacon of their own innocence. This doesn’t seem to be one-off either:

This post initially reads as performative because it has that quality where it feels like gummy is talking to the camera rather than having a genuine thought process.

However, given the above, gummy would have to be good at faking the mindset of a villager if they were a wolf and I thus find it unlikely that the surface level tone indication is alignment indicative. This is because if gummy were mafia, they’re already trying to fake mindset posting and wouldn’t follow subsequently with a post that pretty significantly breaks character.

In a roundabout way, that makes me think it’s more likely to come from a villager. Again, with the performative angle unlikely, all that’s left is that it’s a genuine observation. It’s likely not alignment indicative, but it still feels like it’s something that’s town motivated.

All of this being said, I can see counterarguments. I don’t want to lock gummy in as a villager just yet, but this makes me think voting them off Day 1 is unjustified.

I’m saying that I’d predict Neon with a town character of being unserious would lean into it hard.

I’d like to refrain from influencing myself by committing to a conclusion, but if you made me pick I’d say that his posts don’t seem like they’ve got that forceful quality behind them.

your wallpost was high effort and tbh if you’re town you’re a really good asset to have i think

but also i didn’t know my posts had so much to analyze :" )

VOTE: Chomps

This is what I’m currently proposing. I’ll check up again on their posting to see what I come out with.

how long have you played mafia for?

asking bc you seem like you’re really thoughtful in your playstyle and im curious how you found this site

A few years. Depends on what you define as mafia.

Got my start playing Town of Salem and Among Us, actually. It was a blast that I haven’t had enough of. But by now, I’m more used to the slower forum format than the fast-paced reflex-based games.

Fun fact. I climbed to Masters division in Town of Salem.

It is not something I recommend. I genuinely doubt it did much except quench a desire for mafia. If you roll town enough times, I bet you could climb as high as you want.

At least, that’s what it used to be like.

i hate self meta but i did say this. According to may (i can’t find it rn) my wolftell was (a couple of years ago now) that i always flipped too hard in the other direction after getting caught as wolf and i performed not doing the thing. this is also part of why i hate self meta- I’m historically really good at changing my game so that I was always caught for something different. since i was informed of this i’ve worked on it and now my wolftell is probably something different and also i have fun new chronic illnesses and brain fog that means im not as good of a mafia player as i was a couple of years ago

I find it difficult to maintain any level of confidence when calling Chomps mafia.

I still agree with this. I don’t think it’s an unreasonable take. I just think that after reading the rest of their posts again, it’s hard to quite pin down anything consistently wolfy.

It might just be a quirk of mine that I like to have a strong logical reason to latch onto, like I did with gummy’s mindset that allowed me to convince myself. But here, I find myself able to say it’s just a difference of principle (ie I care about meta and the responses to my prodding more than Chomps of any alignment would) and I have no way of countering that argument because I have no data.
