so not only is it a garbage role but it’s a garbage role that makes you guess the outsider count and gives evils an outsider bluff potentially it’s so bad kill balloonist

I would imagine that’s the fault of " characters getting turned into “ ” characters

to fix that, paste the script into a code block (which is text surrounded by ```)

so,

I can put "quotes" here and they dont get resolved to the bad smart quote things

I never liked the role in the first place

I thought hosts had to give true information unless poisoned

The fact of the matter is that new Balloonist can just rotate learning Townsfolk-claims with Outsider-claims and their information is useless because evils can be tangled up in those claims without any way of differentiating them, with the Outsider count not providing any easy way to just count the numbers.
Whereas old Balloonist was a ticking time bomb and would solve the game if it lived long enough and wasn’t poisoned, every single time.

Old Balloonist wasn’t necessarily fun to be, considering how easily it can be taken off track anyway, but it was incomparable to anything else in the game.

Old balloonist at least gave me assurance that I know there’s an extra outsider because of my character, and gave me the assurance that if I survived for a bit I’d get some good info

Now I’d rather be dead so I don’t have to feel bad that I wasn’t telling people my absolutely baseless pings

because apparently it didn’t need the +1 outsider because of it’s new ability but it’s new ability is so bad it’s unplayable

Its only issue was that one night of poisoning counts for four, I’d say?
Dying isn’t that scary, I think?

What if old Balloonist had to learn four different character types, so if it was poisoned one night it’d just wake up a fifth time if sober? This still creates uncertainty but it’s decipherable uncertainty.

It’s not perfect because it’d suggest a poisoning array did occur, but…

from an ST perspective, yeah it’s great you have more freedom with the ability, give 4 evils in the pings if you want, but that’s the problem, the player of the role has literally 0 agency over what they got and they’ve no idea how to solve it. It’s the same as an amne ability for how useful the info you end up with is

that wasn’t a problem before because that was part of the ability, you didn’t get to pick your 4 names but you got 4 character types from those names

I think showing a traveler is justifiable if poisoned but also sounds unfun regardless

If the ST gave me the names of known townsfolk and then the traveller over and over again in a list until I got all the townsfolk that’d actually be something useful
