[+1 Outsider] is a really dumb setup effect on a Townsfolk because it makes bluffing it that much harder, and it often means that the Balloonist would just Have A Greencheck, combined with an incredibly swingy ability thats either useless or nukes the game. Meaning this Townsfolk thats meant to have a detrimental setup effect is helping their team with it.

Newlloonist has lower highs, sure, but your pings mean something as soon as Night 2. As well as not being entirely devalued by poison. All I see when you complain, Jarek, is “the storyteller can just sandbag me )))))):” which is nonsense. The information is still very powerful. And the new Outsider mod actually makes Balloonist not obnoxiously difficult to bluff for no reason. And its setup actually harms its team, as intended!

Counterpoint: the Outsider exists as setup to ensure the original Balloonist could learn four names at all, and also provides a secondary effect which means the Balloonist is useful even if they die immediately whilst being sometimes confirmable, which means it’s intended behaviour for the Outsider addition to be helpful (as per a Townsfolk ability).

The present ability has lower highs as you assert, and room for a crippling weakness that doesn’t need to be added to this role except in 0-Outsider games. It’s like if Chambermaid had a [+1] effect.

I don’t like the ST being able to use my on-going ability for me is my problem. It made sense with the old balloonist, it doesn’t make sense with this new one. Change the ability to make it so I can choose a player and see if they’re the same character type as my previous choice, something like that.

For me it’s just a boring role that doesn’t do anything and doesn’t let me do anything. I can only guess as to what the ST is hinting at me with my pings and that just isn’t going to be as fun as having the actual agency to do what I want to do with the character I land
