this is probably just true tho

Afaik 4e is significantly more insane but I haven’t seen almost anything of 4e and my statement is mainly based on hearsay :sob:

Flying Broom is fun because it’s neither a vehicle nor a mount, so there are things you just have to figure out on the fly with almost no reference. Like getting knocked prone on a mount or vehicle is unclear. Getting knocked prone on a broom is just whatever the DM decides which is not fun when you’re a witch on your broom and you roll poor on initiative and one the enemies has an attack to knock you prone and you also have a passenger, so when the DM says “okay you’re knocked prone” then suddenly you, your party member, and maybe even familiar all take fall damage and are knocked prone as a consequence for falling.

Well no getting knocked prone on a mount or vehicle is clear - you go Prone but remain seated

Checking the text of the Flying Broomstick, it doesn’t grant the wielder a Fly speed (which would result in the wielder falling when prone), it just has a fly speed itself, so the broom wouldn’t fall if the wielder got knocked prone

I find the usage of the item itself in combat somewhat dubious as a level 12 item when casters get fly spells a lot earlier but I guess it could happen

Addendum - I was actually mistaken the mounted combat rules do not explicitly state if you fall off your mount while Prone - the fact they don’t makes my initial ruling likely correct though

But the entire broom still would not fall if the wielder fell prone because different thing, even if you rule the wielder falls off.

The broom does not hover. If no one strides with it, it falls. Getting knocked off the broom means it’s going to fall.
