I agree that most of us have above average historical knowledge, but I also think Neon has below average.

Summary

It’s a common misconception that peak full plate armor was slow, super heavy, and/or limited mobility. It was usually none of those things.

Full military plate was like 40-70 lbs. In contrast, a modern soldier probably has 80+ pounds of gear. That weight is also well distributed across your body. You’d definitely feel it, but if you’re training to be able to wear it on a battlefield, you’re gonna be fine. I’ve hiked while carrying a 55 lbs backpack which is the same order of weight that’s less efficiently distributed, and could carry it for hours. When I was 10 years old I hiked with a 35 lbs backpack down from the north rim of the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River. The weight of the armor is really not that bad in context.

The armor would also be well-articulated. You needed to be able to do in plate armor all the normal shit someone has to do on a battlefield. You need to be able to mount and dismount a horse. You need mobility in your arms and legs to efficiently fight. You need to be able to duck, crawl, kneel, pick yourself back up if you fall, maneuver around obstacles, run. Someone wearing full plate armor could do all of these things.

Edit: odds are you could not swim in plate armor though which I guess is a meaningful caveat. I’ve heard people argue that someone well-trained and familiar with the armor could maybe swim short distances, but I wouldn’t wanna bank on that

no uh that is your fault actually
theres a big difference between knowing exact dates and knowing eras of Entire World History. The romans werent around near medieval times. I also suck at geography and history but its kinda close minded to act like because these things happened before or are in different places that they dont matter as much

I took AP World History in what I want to say was my sophomore year, but got disqualified from the test because I couldn’t handle how long the wait between sections was.
I just kinda forgot everything afterwards.

heh.
