Going out for a coffee is cool. I have to walk 40 minutes to get somewhere where you can exchange money for goods. If I don’t have eggs or butter or milk for a recipe, I need to ask somebody to go out and get it for me – maybe I could bike to the gas station if it happened to be something you could get at a gas station, but I definitely could not get any other kind of grocery or ready-made food without a car. Nobody delivers pizza to our location.
And I cook for myself most of the time even when I’m not around here, but it is way, way better to have the option to not do that if I’m not feeling well.
I basically didn’t get to have an independent IRL social life at all. If my parents were busy and couldn’t take me to something, I couldn’t go. If it was something they wouldn’t approve of, I couldn’t go.
