i think a lot of like people have for music is the positive emotion leftover from a time they heard it

like how people like music from games they play more than just on their own

i feel like if this were a large part of it people would cycle through new stuff much less often

but for most people i feel like the bulk of their listening is stuff they found relatively recently

Kinda curious about this because I feel like I’m in the minority here. I mostly listen to the music already in my Library and only add new ones when I actively seek them out.
Or if I run into a banger animatic.

A shared feeling between my first playthroughs of 8-2 and 8-3 was just “how the fuck is this still going”

I guess better question: how do you generally find music?

I tend to go onto rateyourmusic and find something that seems interesting but ymmv.

I also seperately wrote down a bunch of artists people were talking about liking (and/or that i heard a good song from) but i have not made much progress

i’m also relatively un-discovering with my music listening but every week or two i’ll listen to like two to five new albums in one day.

but i do still tend to listen to music that is newer to me within that context?

i think this implies that you don’t get comparable (if less) positive emotion from listening to it again which i would tend to disagree with? but also it varies.

I find music when I find game to add to list of games to post about

you make up implications so you can disagree with your made up implications

Manipulative

if you don’t take that implication then the statement becomes somewhat silly ‘people like music because it reminds them of positive emotions. in that they are experiencing comparable (if less) positive emotion by listening to it’

I counter your implications with my implications: I view music-listening with similar logic to the Modigliani-Miller theory of capital structure. A company should only take on debt and lever itself up if it can provide excess returns compared to a person buying the stock and levering it up. Music is similar, but for emotion.

(This is, like, 50% a joke.)

“a decent part of why people like certain songs is because the emotions they experienced the past times they’ve listened to it draws them to it”
