K.I.S.S.
Keep It Simple, Stupid.
The less work I have to do in the future, the better. Because as demonstrated in Deck of Cards, anything I donât cover in the present past will become a liability in the future present.
With this in mind, forcing all players to have access to Discord is⌠not the worst option, but does increase my future presentâs workload, even if only by a small degree.
Therefore, the system that will be presented there has to be simple.
IIRC, in A.S.T.T., the Golem Neighborhood had a system where I made a channel for each neighbor.
The main channelâs visibility required one to have a certain role. However, it was slightly troublesome when a neighbor gets disconnected.
Not only do I have to (temporarily) remove the role; I also have to give personal access to their personal channel. (Where the only thing written there is: âIf you see this message, then you are not in this hood.â)
I made this system (where everyone had a personal channel where they couldnât talk) because I was too darn lazy to kick players and reinvite them every time they disconnect and reconnect.
The system worked well enough, but I always wonder if there would be an even more easier (and thereby lazier) means of keeping the status quo.
. . .
The more I think about A.S.T.T. (henceforth dubbed [3rd]), the more I realize the systems it had was already dang good as is. If it wasnât for the personal gimmick I have of having a different reviewer for each iteration, then the 4th installment of A.S. would probably use similar systems as [3rd].
Instead I now have offshoots branching horizontally instead of vertically. Because Alt-Quantum and Alt-Shattered were designed prior to the execution of [3rd], neither had the rights to be called [3rd]'s successor.
[It was at this moment that I realize I am derailing myself from talking about a setup with mechanics related to security, into talking about the April Showers series.]
*Zone proceeded to continue writing a wallpost about A.S. regardless.*
Forlorn is⌠a disappointment, not gonna lie.
Overhaul was self-explanatory; I took a setup and overhauled it. Reconstructed was an improvement based on Overhaul, and [3rd] was an improvement based on Reconstructed. Yet Forlorn⌠is not based on [3rd] at all.
Forlornâs secondary purpose was to lower everyoneâs expections by using âtameâ roles. Its primary purpose was to get one of Arete/Willow to review it. In hindsight, Forlorn is just a âgimmick setupâ, borrowing the name of A.S. while not having much connection with its predecessors besides its general structure.
Times were tough when Forlorn was opened, so it was cut short from its original 15âer to a smaller 10âer. I cannot say the original 15âer wouldâve improved the setupâs quality or enjoyability, but I was left with a hint of bitter taste in my mouth to see a setup virtually unrelated to the other installments getting degraded even further due to the desperate reality.
By no means am I complaining towards Arete; they did a great job reviewing Forlorn and being realistic enough to request for a more approachable size from the setup.
I am merely complaining about what already happened because the grass is always greener on the other side, and because -in hindsight- Forlorn just feels like a bastard child that doesnât fit in with the other kids. A joke, made in the spur of the moment.
Where will A.S. series go from here on out? I believe that, once side-branches that are Alt-Quantum and Alt-Shattered are finished with their execution, this series might end then and there. With Forlornâs status being mediocre, I find it hard to imagine a fifth installment to the main series.
My future self might probe at this series again, but by then times would have changed as well. Perhaps he would have a better solution than my present selfâs plans for this series.
Where was I?

Ah, right. Breaking Security.
(I couldâve sworn it started off as âmaking a darn good setup for once instead of whatever I was doing beforeâ⌠Oh well. Mustâve been my imagination.)
So, accessibility is breakable by using [3rd]'s systemâ Woah⌠Thatâs weird. I couldnât see the image from Cookie Thread Act 7 before, but now I can. (Is it because I use different phones?)
Now I realize it says Authenticity / Authorization instead of Accessibility.
âŚwell this kinda threw a wrench into my plans. Did I seriously monologue for nothing?
villains when the hero stopped their plan before they started to explain it
No no no.
Itâd be like having the villain be interrupted mid-monologue because the hero revealed that the plan had already been thwarted.
that was the idea but not the full explaination given
Anyhow, what do I do now
Whenever I think of communication and gaining powers, I think of DitF FM, but I received that setupâs blueprints from Osie, and the actual system behind it is not simple~ (This is me being annoying by complaining over a troublesome task. It ainât impossible, but I ainât got the will to execute that thing.)
Hm⌠I guess continue with whatever I had in mind for âBreaking Securityâ?
Eh~ How do I break integrity again? âCorrupting messages by removing bits of the original messageâ⌠I feel like thatâs a **it-ton of work~ Donât wanna~
I feel like⌠I should take some inspiration from Wiretapper13er. The roles were simple, yet the executions were fantastic.
I am still salty that the Mafia killed all mech-solvers from that game, and caused the game to lose because the survivors ignored mech. It was the best course of action for the Mafia, but infuriating to witness as a dead Town.
The easiest way of breaking confidentiality is by having some form of entity that causes sent messages to have wrong recipients.
My initial idea was more drastic: Get someone to infiltrate another playerâs Role PM!
I can do it. I can make it a reality! I promise!
âŚbut, it probably wonât pass review, because âit would break common senseâ or some nonsense like âplayers reviewers wonât enjoy itâ.
Eh~ Do I scrap this setup idea after all~?
Reflector⌠sounds like a stupid role. Itâs effectively turning someone into a Brainshocker Goo or something.
Speaking of which, I wonder whether I should make another setup filled with manipulators. Paradox Hazard didnât end well IMO since I ended up not using enough roles that could trigger [3rR0r]s, but Mafia still won in the end.
*checks Paradox Hazard*
