POV8 E6 Yappa Yappa Yappa

…the more I see Eliza, the less I like her as a character. (Not sure to what degree this seeps into the real person behind the character. I heard too many “y’know”, “like”, “I like money”.)

I get that Eliza is meant to prioritize her brother over literally anything else, and she is… naïve of heart, not distrusting the church despite believing a different faith. But by Daedus, she is so… irritating. Whether it be an act or not by the person behind the character, her deceit is non-existent, so whenever she attempts to lie or avoid talking about a certain topic, it becomes really obvious. And that’s saying something, coming from me.

Silas– Silas is doing a great job at being a merchant. Providing goods to those who ask for it, promoting his own merchandise in a not-too-overbearing way, not sabotaging competition. (Because the “competition” is not even worth fighting; the Ashvales are green / wet behind the ears, and Benny is not competitive at all.)

He makes connections with the doctors, gets well known by the other merchants and the coven for being a storyteller, and puts himself in an ambiguous position regarding the views of the guild, trying to broaden the horizons of the citizens.

Edward Hawkins -the tavern owner- wishes to expand the tavern, but is struggling to do so because the guild holds the power of the currency flow, and the current guild leader prioritizes progress over stability, making investments in other fields besides the tavern.

Edward does agree that criminals ought to have the right to redeem themselves, but doesn’t fully agree with the guards’ tradition of sending criminals to gather “cursed bones”. (Because the death rate is so high, it might as well be a death sentence.)

Edward views Solomon as someone who sought after Barnabys’ position. He believes that the son fears that the father might return had the latter not been executed on the spot. (Which. is not entirely wrong.)

Mr. Thorne (I only learned that his first name is Francis thanks to the wiki) …I’d say is still the weirdest character in terms of motives. Eliza thinks that he should be in charge instead of Solomon (which is BS FMPOV), Silas is piqued by the fact that he is content with the status quo of essentially being the guild leader’s right hand man, and Edward thinks that Mr. Thorne would’ve eventually become the guild leader had the patricide not happened.

I genuinely cannot understand how such a character can exist within the fort. That level of professionalism and focus… is really unheard of. Even Declan doesn’t have that level of virtue. Sure, Declan is loyal and dedicated to Solomon, but even he has his vice when he nicked Gwen’s belt buckle from her as revenge for ordering her own father (i.e., the coven’s protector) to steal Solomon’s book.

Man. Silas is right. Eliza is weird because she is the only one who attempts to act normal. Nobody comes to the fort for “normal reasons”. The guards get sent because they got duped by their superiors; the guild members are sent because of duty (except Leopold, but he’s an odd cookie among odd cookies); the coven exists of women who are not accepted anywhere else; the mercenaries– okay, they are “normal” because they live for the coin (and the ones who dare go south to boast their fame either fled from the creatures or die by their hands).

So, as merchants, it’s rather weird that they exist at all. Silas’ ultimate motive is revenge, Benny’s motive… is unknown to be honest, but the Ashvales are even more unknown than Benny’s. Heck, even as a watcher, all I know is that Eliza will do some salt binding ritual at some point, and only wishes to open a store and live as a merchant. IDK what Elliot’s agenda is, but he somehow has more influence than I thought he would in this fort. (Mainly because he is trusted by Stiorra, huh… He holds the same beliefs as the vagabond, even if only for one of the many deities, but only the brother is in the know whereas the sister refuses to accept reality…)

Ah. I’ve yapped too much. POV8 E6 is now over, but it’s also gotten quite late. I’ll continue with POV6 E6 “tomorrow”. I gotta plan my sleep schedule since E8 will be in around 25 hours or so.

Common English word,

Though admittedly I don’t use this word in my everyday life. Still, I know this word well enough for me to place it as a common word.
