the repair costs for EVs are way more expensive here
and also youâll have much less choice in garages as a significant amount donât work on EVs
right
but Iâm not talking about EVs
thereâs little difference in terms of vehicle maintenance
if you have the infrastructure for EVs you likely have the infrastructure for hybrids as well
no thatâs very wrong
how
hybrids by and large are just ICE cars with a battery and some motors slapped in
the vast, vast, vast majority of times something goes wrong with a car drivetrain itâs a moving mechanical part, not one of the motors
so the odds you ever have to actually touch the electric drivetrain are low, and if anything goes wrong with the ICE components then every shop ever should be able to address that
however, whatâs notable is that because you have the motors and battery, the mechanical parts of your car are actively under significantly less stress in normal operation than if you didnât have the motors to do the bulk of the heavy lifting
this allows your mechanical parts (including stuff like brake pads even) to last way longer because they just experience so much less wear and tear
i guess if u total your car itd be harder to fix but ima be so real that should not be the metric by which we determine which car to buy
(and if that is a serious concern for you maybe you should rethink owning any car tbh)
in other words, the outliers where something does go catastrophically wrong are probably more expensive for hybrids than ICE cars, but the expected value of maintenance costs is much lower for a hybrid than an ICE-only vehicle
Litten moment.
Iâve just had a look around the garages for my area and a single one offers petrol, diesel & hybrid servicing but not electric
and itâs 21% more expensive
âhybrid servicingâ is fake as fuck because if something is wrong with your hybrid itâs almost certainly not the electric shit so you just go to a shop that doesnât advertise hybrids specifically and have them take care of your generic-ass mechanical issue
like I know multiple people who own hybrids (including me) and I have never once heard of any of them having an electronics issue that required any kind of specialized EV mechanic to fix instead of just whichever shop was cheapest
seriously electric motors are fucking stupid simple to operate and have virtually no wear
they arenât the thing that breaks
if u dont believe me google search âare hybrids cheaper to maintain than gas carsâ and read all the articles saying yes :P
they also tend to have automatic gearboxes
the horror
an automatic gearbox
