Im a 90% prescriptivist. Im not fully on it, there is room to evolve and let go of old and obsolete stuff. But more than 50% of descrptivist notions are dumb imo. Dumb because they just serve to cause miscommunications. I dont want to follow set rules just for the sake of following rules, i hate tradition as a concept, i just hate miscommunication more and if ppl constantly try to change the meaning of words and i can see how that causes miscommunication its irritating to me

“Lowkey” is interchangable with “highkey” via descriptivism, even tho theyre supposedly antonyms

lowkey is definitely supposed to be a bit… actual lowkey. Even if not to dull the upcoming statement, to at least signify it isn’t something that should be said or not something you’d think / should think initially.
Like “lowkey tutuu has been really annoying me these past days” (dont worry tutuu its a joke i just made that the sentence to scare you). I mean it maybe dulls it a bit but it also signifies that it’s a thought you’d keep under the radar. Sometimes it is just a dulling effect. Like “lowkey didn’t like Johns reaction to John2s wolfflip”.

“lowkey” is either you don’t really want to talk about it much or you’re testing the waters to see if anyone else feels that way. like if i’m like “lowkey {opinion}” and someone tells me im crazy im gonna let it go. it’s proffering. “highkey” has more urgency and intensity to it, and/or it’s for humorous effect, and i would say it for an opinion i would less easily let go of. there may or may not be an element of like the thing in question hasn’t really been pointed out or discussed previously to both.
