There are so many uh. Plot issues. Especially the brainwashing and not killing Kyoko. That went not great with DR3. That being said, I did like Hajime a hell lot better and appreciated him so much more after DR3 (him meeting Makoto is peak). DR3 did feel like kind of an attempt to validate Chiaki’s place in the story, though.
My character hot take on this one: Someone once convinced me to reevaluate Ruruka. I don’t like her strictly, but she is an interesting character for sure.
fwiw they are in my F tier not because I think they’re a character that the story would be better off if they were a better person (like Hifumi and Teruteru) but just because I plain think they’re a terrible person and don’t like them on those grounds
notably this essentially means they’re F tier for good reasons I think are borne of good writing decisions, as opposed to F tier because I think they were written in a horrible way I can’t get behind
the tier list is, in other words, a blend of character merit and character likability that is extremely personal to how much I weight either of those on a arbitrary case-by-case basis
so if somebody says they think they’re a good character I can 100% get behind that
still hate their guts tho xdd
but like I would be EXTREMELY amicable to the idea that they’re better-written than a lot of the characters above them
Very fair
Now play V3
Which is Decidedly Different
No other thoughts will be given
Lmao yeah
I dont even necessarily mind that plot point existing
But I think you need to apply it WAY more conservatively
It turns into a magical handwave for everything when if you just cut it back to just the suicide one existing you can still explain the 2000+ simultaneous suicides without really stepping on the toes of the earlier games at all
hell if you really wanna you can even brainwash just yukizome specifically if you just claim it was tailored to her specifically as an experiment or whatever that junko would continue to iterate on once she’s out of the DR1 school
but i really think it was a massive miss to just apply it as the cause to literally everything
Kinda curious about your thoughts on Sayaka, specifically because I think she’s really effective at what she’s trying to do in DR1.
i generally dislike idols and she’s annoying for being one
really not that deep, like i lowkey would have put a generic childhood friend higher than an idol childhood acquaintance just because i find the way this concept is generally executed to be annoying (and DR is no exception here)
I think she’s a reasonably effective plot device, and I do understand that if they had truly been friends it would be hard to justify her going for the frame on him, but in the end I still just dont like her character much at all
treating this like madlibs
having a really hard time trying to make oab5 not sexist in this madlibs
is it bad that I never really considered that mollylikesorigami would actually… like origami?
it says a lot about your character i think
IDK how it could be bad, so that’s a no from me.
Eating dessert is a morally neutral action.
Speaking of hate, AFAICR she and Leon are always fated to die. Not by plot, but by circumstances during the production. The artists are sick of drawing them.
As for Sayaka herself… Plot-wise… eh. Her plot is good. Not unpredictable. Not bad. Character-wise… I don’t… remember much? I think she just feels ‘generic’ in my head. Heck, I don’t think there’s a non-generic character from DR1 besides the main antagonist
DR2 though: Fuck Nagito.
DRV3… I have poor memory, but I remember that the Detective is fucking stupid. Not “you have to be stupid because this is a game” stupid. No. He is stupid because he ruined the plan to ruin all things, and then only got his ass covered by fucking plot device. …on a side note, I like the troublemaker character that lies a lot in DRV3.
