idk normal mafia is probably higher skill in the sense that you aren’t allowed to ignore the slots you struggle to read, you have to really dig deep into your thoughts, but mashes also more heavily incorporate skills of evaluating others reads, real-time decision making, making high pressure calls, etc.

I like the part of mafia where you have to make determinations under difficult probability-situations, it’s both the most difficult and most rewarding part of mafia to me, and mashes don’t test that as much

See I like mashes because I feel like you’re always doing that (unless I misunderstand what you mean). Idk, it’s fun to be able to make “the call” on 8 slots in a game, you never get that in normal, votesy mafia.

What I don’t like in mashes is that a lot of people will say “let’s just blast through all these slots”, being super in-depth on every single one doesn’t super matter because there’s a lot of room for error. I like when there’s No room for error and you have to make the right call or else

that’s fair by those criteria. it is also probably more overall rewarding but doesn’t meet the instant gratification standards of making a read and being immediately rewarded or punished for it. Like investing in stocks vs trading options

Lowkey mashes are the gacha game versions of mafia

ty for informing me I would have 100% missed it

I’m specifically thinking of FAM4 where I was going thru a lot of effort trying to sort LHF and everybody was like “spend your time doing something else” and shot 'em

I was also wrong but not really related

I think I would benefit from being a little more mash-y, like I suck at quick decisions and would probably benefit from just going through the “chess puzzles” version of mafia where I do a thing and get immediate feedback, so maybe I should play them from time to time. But I’d want to play FAM, and I host FAM

If last game were a bit different I’d give that as an example of me failing to make quick decisions under pressure, but I thought that the EoD was V/V and so refused to break the tie and then it was V/V

i actually think mashes you get these opportunities a fair bit, but not on d2 on lhf ya

there is definitely more overall room for error on a broad level though cause of the nature of the scale yes

not breaking the tie was like… ostensibly a pretty decent play.

breaking tie to kill dia is, like, game losing, and breaking tie to kill tutuu is still not all that great for town because its a dead villa who has legacied 2 villagers as wolf and begged us to kill them. I mean dia getting 8balled by my vote swap is bad for town but also led to a very tight PoE that was theoretically maneuverable (and frankly town could’ve won that game if people were willing to hand xorbitant the full reins to the day)

Mashes are lost by a lot of people going “okay well we have enough room for error to just do [X]” until all those errors pile up; what a mash is lost on is subjective; I like when the win/loss feedback is fairly close to specific per-action

I got into a debate with Arctic abt it in spec chat lol. I think it was fair but that I probably should have pulled dia as 8balled and resisted the execution there.

…tbf I was between tutuu and dia as 8balled and it easily coulda been either lol

I don’t think it was all that easy to get to dia 8balled tbh, from your pov maybe easier

Kind of

dia is really easy to like propaganda people toward PoEing early on bc they play in a fairly “fakeable-seeming way”
