last one is the most practical for most designers but it functionally just makes it “whichever player who is percieved to be stronger than 90% of the list gets unlucky dies” instead of, to say it impolitely, a complete d1/n1 brain drain
don’t think you can completely solve the problem with a single solution
it’d be a start and we already see it in a fair few places like ‘fuck d2 dayvigs’ which is a relatively common take
could you convince hosts to give wolves a late start on much of their kp?
oh that’d be tough
dayvigs do have “Aura” which is valuable but they have “Aura” in the part of the game where everyone left roughly knows what’s happening and thus knows what they have to lose when they hear Shots ring out!
scum dayvigs on d2 have negative aura
“oh the strong player died before ita1, oh wow”
I love how socially complex mashes are, I love that there is too much going on. But it does lead to annoying polarity where everyone wlll just kill The Best villagers at night, and everyone will just mow down through the slankiest slots, kinda no matter what happens.
like to be clear i love that they’re so big and weird and complicated, it’s just you have to make that more legible somehow to avoid that kind of shit
scum dayvigs have aura when you know wolves have one, and its coming, and it could be you. That’s terrifying and cool. But it is never that cool on d2 cuz its like oh, the cop who claimed a red is dead suddenly, okay hten
you want to make players play in to that complexity rather than try to play out of it
scumteams in mashes have all their actions done by 1-2 people a vast majority of the time
this isn’t a bad thing and I don’t think making the game easier to parse would actually change the current paradigm
this is to say
‘i don’t think legibility would make scumteams suddenly have sauce and not aggressively spk’
ah, true, because you still have to deal with the problem that giving Everyone an input in a group of like… 20 people, sometimes, is Hard
i do still think legibility would make wolves at least a little more inclined to play the game? but there is a reason I described this problem as being intractable. you can only really mitigate it, becuase at a certain point there’s no escaping the fact that it is on average good to reduce the skill level of your opponents
I do think the framing of 12/12 should be acknowledged
Some people just want to sleep
Or like, do their jobs
my like “legibility” mash idea would be something awful like FAM 36/12 but with a postcap of like 125
As town I never felt like I couldn’t keep up with FAM. I felt like I could genuinely consider every player at least to some degree
that is true not all of us are unemployed due to disability and chronic illness (i still manage to be productive, so don’t make any cruel jokes)
Changing kill power distribution with some other bandaids interferes with individual player decisions minimally while improving the spk’d player bracket experience a bit
You’ll still have your spk targets but hey what can ya do
