lowkey this would be SO townsided tho. 36/12 generally is just townsided of a mash length. Wolves dont have anything to hide in, and there’s not nearly enough chaos causing snap bad town decisions. maybe its just “not the extremely wolfsided nature of mashes”, and not actually townsided, but its a big difference

36/12 mash isn’t like bad but 12/12 ends a lot faster

for what its worth i still think a lot of mafia designers are struggling to get over the hurdle of “there are less wolves so their abilities should do more” in design, fucking somehow

yeah 36/12 would be real hard to swing to get players

postcap maybe too but ngl the anni pre-d1 postcap made for a muchhh better time

its crazy looking back and forth between the closed setup stuff and clocktower because sometimes you see closed setups made in like, 2024 where the wolves have a regular ass rolecop that has no other abilities and meanwhile one of the weakest clocktower Minions just sees the spreadsheet and is also a godfather

i think the extreme clocktower has landed on works for clocktower’s game format but obviously for mafia I think maybe we can go somewhere in between

okay but clocktower has a ton of super powerful town roles too lol

Worst Setup mogs

not to be like that but is that really true
basically everything that actually makes progress on its’ own has some in-built downside or confounding factor
the only thing that makes clocktower towns stronger is that they don’t have pseudo-VTs

I like low mech games better from a philosophical manner but at least for mashes I like mech-heavy setups. mech info just makes it muchhh easier to play.

Weakest role irreparably breaks the game if the player locks in

psuedo-VTs are basicallly The thing that tank rolemadnss power levels but they’re basicallly necessitated by death constituting player elimination rather than just removing your ability and most of your voting power

I mean there is some balance but clocktower town has, for example, “instantly win the game button if you have a good guess at demon”. Invests are kinda weak i will give you that

i should be clear: I do agree with the point you’re making, I just think sometimes mafia players overstate how busted clocktower characters are. and also just forget the game is flipless.

sometimes clocktower players somehow forget the game is flipless

Clocktower prevents me from feeling good about leaving the room after death to eat food

no player elims is obviously like, just better for shortform games but it does put some restraints on the game’s pace because you have to make everyone actually want to play the game for its’ entire runtime

player elimination is terrible for shortform but great for longform, and non player elimination is terrible for longform but great for shortform

i love clocktower, you can tell because i made a nearly 40 character collection of characters for it, but I love it for the things that it’s good at rather than the marketing about it being the ULTIMATE SOCIAL DEDUCITON GAME and an EVOLUTION OF THE GENRE. I get why you have to say that but the game is actually just good.

in general i find any sort of marketing that isn’t just an argument that something is good and you will enjoy or gain something from your time with it to be tedious. we’ve all seen those ads that try to call to mind a sense of numinous love for humanity in the context of selling you a coffee machine
