like yes, I understand that even advertisements and marketing copy that present themselves as just being reports on the virtues of a product and its’ attibutes are often manipulative and evil too, but I at least prefer that to Christmas ads that try to tie shopping at TESCO with a sense of pride in the beauty of the British isles. both are manipulative but one is manipulative and patronising

I find it funny that there is an extremely popular gameshow with the premise being “basically mafia” and it has probably the worst mechanics of all time

the traitors is so fucking funny becasue its sometimes good by accident

the rest of the time it’s Claudia Winklemann saying “The Traitors. Are going to Trait someone again tonight. Unless the Faithfuls are very clever…”

(the show is originally dutch but the British version is the reason why it exploded internationally. for Yank purists, Imagine that the previous post read as follows:)

the rest of the time it’s Alan Cumming saying “PLAYERS! …The Traitors, damnable as they are, intend to TRAIT someone again, tonight!!! Hold fast to what you believe in, O Faithful, and be veeeery cleveeeer, and you MIGHT survive!”

technically both posts are a lie when the traitors is at its worst it’s usually when they’re banishing someone for being black and/or neurodivergent, which happens on nearly every fucking series. and then occasionally some really fucking cool Actually Playing Mafia shit happens. and then we’re back to a game where we have stacked huge monetary incentives to play as badly as possible, and also the wolves literally can’t lose until the final 5

vibes of the host on the versions of the traitors i’ve seen:

UK: comically unnecessary levels of solemn, quiet intensity
US: just absolutely devouring the scenery for no advantage
NZ: spiritually wearing a pith hat indoors
Ireland: barely concealed disinterested contempt for the contestants
India: spy movie villain
Canaian English: actually wants to kill the contestants in real life

the host is like weirdly vestigial on the Traitors and could easily be cut - they could do the The Genius or The Devil’s Plan gambit and just have the host be an enigmatic masked figure with a voice changer who is not acknowldged except in the marketing and it would literally be cool - but how different celebrities decde to play it is always so funny to me

because the game is aesthetically a death game where elimintaed contestants die in real life, you basically hvae to have the host play as a villain, but how exactly they go for that differs a lot depending on who’s hosting

but also the host, being a named famous person, probably doesn’t want to be too overtly hostile, so their performances are all extremely camp, in a way that only sometimes fits the game.

the clever move is having a faceless, constructed host who’s made menacing by their anonymity, and then having the celebrity host be their contemptible assistant. A modification of the Taskmaster gambit, basically.

as i understand it they released the patches in tandem with the announcement, (well i think the info acc got leaked slightly early but this was the intent) and releasing tbe patches gave more info on how to exploit the vulnerabilities so there wasnt really possible ro be more lead time in any practixal way

mu is just running an uhm. old unsupported php version the official patches didnt protect, and simply changing that is not that simple due to complicating factors :joy_cat:

sidenote this has been a pretty interesting discussion to read in part because while i dont disagres with a lot of the sentiments about mash dynamic issues/what causes wolf wins, i still remember way back in the day on POG when they were considered townsided due to the powerlevel of well organized ITAs for village

Theres a number of factors in what has changed but i will say volume was absolutely meaningfully lower 10 years ago, like if you look at the postcounts per day in early MU mashes (not thst you can do this rn but) it’s a bit wild in comparison

So like yeah mashes are incredibly complex, but I have seen wolf teams in multiple instances make sophisticated decisions about night kills on n1 even in Anni. IIRC 2020 switched multiple night actions onto cops n1 because people were like “I think they’re a cop” and it’s even more impressive that they were correct. Sometimes SPKs are a shrug, but it’s more often due to a lack of information and/or strong PR reads rather than reductive strategy.

I seem to remember wolves tend to win mashes more often than villagers at least on MU.

There’s definitely something wrong with things.
Controversial/negative stuff with tiny numbers of likes feel like they’re rising to the surface way faster than the stuff a lot of people liked/discussed.

fam1 was 36/12 and while im pretty sure i strongmanned u n1 (noob) i unfortunately had to endgame that and i think 36/12 mashes are fucking evil and ur evil for sugesting this

24/24 is fine altho i never got to wolf one

also id play more mashes if i died n1 more ngl. altho i was kinda content being like usually n2ed
