This comparison favors the sedan against the small SUVs, but less so. This does expose the difference with the much larger 9 though.

No we have a garage. We don’t keep stuff in the car at home. My wife worries if we’re out and have something valuable in the car, and wants to keep it in the trunk.

imo cars with a trunk cover basically solve that issue like 99.9% of the time but maybe car break-ins are way more common where you live and again it’s not a completely invalid fear by any stretch

but yeah SUVs are going to have the exact same issue as hatchbacks here so im unsure how those are in consideration if hatchbacks would potentially be out for the same issue

realistically though if you’ve settled on EV over PHEV then I’m not really familiar with any EV hatchbacks that are still being made so they might literally not exist (or maybe they do, hell if I know, I don’t keep up with cars)

and like EV vs PHEV probably has a larger meaningful impact on your choice than hatchback vs sedan vs crossover

Well, I need to drive a long distance at most once per year in the past 4 years. I work from home and don’t have a commute. The farthest I regularly drive is less than 1 hour away. The number of miles is 2-digits. Why would I get a hybrid?

generally it would be because they’re cheaper

depending on how often and how far that regular far drive is a PHEV could potentially do that 100% electric and if it does then that makes it an appealing option

if it doesn’t then yeah you might be one of a reasonably small number of people for whom an EV actually makes genuine sense over a PHEV

EVs excel in the range where PHEVs have too low range but you don’t yet need to stop to recharge en route

its just that most people either have sub-20-mile commutes or drive too far

falling in that 20-to-120 mile range is pretty rare, all things considered, but if thats you then hell yeah EV makes sense

like for me personally my daily commute could be all-electric if I had a PHEV (I do not, but I wish I did for this reason)

if that is untrue for you then yes an EV may be the right choice

I will point out that both Jason and Wise were unable to help us there.

A PHEV would make my life easier because a Prius is just the slam dunk choice in my mind (I’ve always owned Toyotas and they’ve never let me down).

fwiw if I was forced to buy any new car right now it would, without question, be a prius prime

like new priuses don’t even look uggo which used to be like the literal sole downside

(okay there’s another downside which is they’re often targets for catalytic converter theft but I’ve only once lived anywhere where that might have mattered)
