Gosh, what is with my English. Does it ever happen to you to forget an entire word to put in your sentence.

yes

I agree. ai should not be used in certain human affairs I feel. like advice affairs. I think some of the algorithms used on social media are extremely dangerous and some social medias use algorithms especially to target vulnerable people. I think it does too much sometimes. there are too many things being tracked by ai instead of humans and things consistently are wrong anyway regardless or certain topics are incorrectly placed on timelines. of course, you can say to get off of social media and the internet, but we have to be real and know that there is a significant amount of people who don’t have access to higher education within a quick amount of time due to whatever reasons they have. Then there are just vulnerable people and posts that are also written way too intelligently and trustworthy that have negative information. Theres so many factors. AI is good for a tool, but I believe it’s bad on a genuinely emotional level towards people.

I just think people should be more careful with their AI usage in general bc thats another whole can of worms

At the same time it seems like 90% of the people at my school just use AI to do all of their work for them (even going out of their way to find ways to use it on full-on tests), which overall just lowers my opinion of the median person that much more.
And, at this point, I’m just hoping that it all comes crashing down at some point so that those people can’t just rely on asking grok to solve all of their problems for them.

Saying get off of social media and the internet is such a dismissive and shallow quip lol. It’s the era of digitalisation, it’s not weird for people to frequent websites.

I said social media isn’t responsible for the large increase in suicidality it’s often attributed to. I believe the research on it has been unclear if its effects are a net positive or not. I would not say that it’s worth those deaths, but that the specific intervention of banning it wholesale is 1) not going to resolve the larger trend and we should try to find potential alternative causes and 2) we do need to come up with better interventions to stop deaths driven by social media because we it seems like banning outright shifts risks around and maybe not overall for the better.

Again, I don’t think that the current generation of LLMs can generally increase productivity. A recent study (by MIT I think?) found that they were only capable of handling like 12.5% of common office tasks. It’s fair to say that in certain use cases they can increase productivity, but that doesn’t necessarily translate to lives saved. A factory firing 40% of its formerly 1000 employee workforce after automating the production of toys is an increase of productivity, but in the short term, the only evident effect on human life is now 400 are out of a job and I don’t think unemployment has a net positive effect on the average lifespan. We’d need to somehow show that this productivity gained somehow translated into something that positively affected the lives of people.

It went from cheating being the exception to cheating being the norm.

Seeing that number be so low is genuinely cathartic. Thank you.

Like generative AI as a technology generally has use cases where it’s useful like protein folding or whatever. However, that’s not ChatGPT. We don’t need ChatGPT for that use case. An employee at another branch of my company using an LLM to quickly churn out unusable slop code that we cannot use is neither a productivity gain nor will it actually save lives.

I am dearly amused how a bank operated fired all its bankers, tried to operate only with AI but failed and called all the bankers back.

Also, yeah. Violating various labor laws can technically increase productivity. That doesn’t mean that you should violate those labor laws. Come on, we got rid of child labor for a reason.

I mean if you just bombed everything, it would technically accomplish such a goal.

who tf is ā€œweā€. America is like the one country not to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Because its child labor laws are too restrictive. Among other bad reasons
