I’m not really on good terms with fanfics…
If an author wanted two (or more) of their character to be attracted to each other, they would have writed the story that way.
And self-insert fanfic can’t really appeal to me…

Try the “Earth is online” one of the few good BL stories I remember.
Tbf i think there is some phenomenon being described here given people generally accepted it as a premise (I know my sample group is really skewed but it also ~rings true in my mind palace. I think people might be limiting to straight men?)

Yeah, I was just lashing on fanfics on general, unrelated to the argument.
Fanfics were just never relevant in my survey, to be honest.
Also writing and reading isn’t really the same.
Okay, it’s unlikely a homophobe will write a gay story, but any other combination is very likely. Just because someone wrote a f/f or m/m story, it doesn’t mean they have to like reading similar stories. I met good authors, who didn’t like to indulge some of the theme they were writing, but did for complection’s sake, and they still wrote an enjoyable story.
(Even I try to include multiple arrangement of attractions in my stories, or trying to show the POV from all/multiple sides. Yeah, I can’t really write realistic sex scenes from obvious reasons, but it didn’t ever stop me trying… Even if they were scrapped most of the time.)
My biggest problem with fanfics, that it’s either twist the personality of the original characters, which is just a big F U to the author. Or it’s very likely a self-insert, which I can’t really enjoy reading.

Funnily enough, I haven’t tried to write an ace love-story either yet. Which is just weird, why I haven’t I thought about it earlier… Didn’t realise it isn’t really represented in media until recently.

I went onto Ao3 looking for some good Christian stelle/firefly but all I could find was FUCKING MYDEI/PHAINON its endemic, a nonstop barrage of slash. So I scroll back further, surely there are lesbians; surely there is yuri. Nope. Aventurine/boothill, Aventurine/dr ratio. Where’s firefly? Where’s silver wolf? Nowhere to be seen. You scroll back further, hoping at least 1.0 isn’t full of animals and degeneracy, and what do you see? More slash. Blade/dan heng.
This is why I hate yaoi.
