Also I have to note it here, there are difference even between multiple harem stories. There are stories, where MC has a lot of fanboys/fangirls, who never makes a move on the protag, and just hope the protag will be cured out of being a dense MF. (these I dubbed as the fake harem stories), than there are the harem stories, where the MC is clear about those feelings sorrounding them, but for one reason or other they donât want to choose until the climax of the story, and either choose one. (dubbed as monogamy harems, and any long lasting love triangles belongs here), or choose everyone (called the âI donât want to choseâ ending, (well technically it has every beats of a monogamy harem but with a not so creative ending)) there are stories, where the MC establish real relationships with their partners, these stories have multiple subcategories, based on how aware the partners are of each other, and how they relate to being in a harem, but I collectively call this category as âgacha haremâ (and sometime it even feels like the MC capture those partners) and based on the subcategories, there are at least âhidden gachaâ âharmonius gachaâ and ârival gachaâ harems and their combinations. Also I still have to mention the last category, just for completition sake, (it is technically called a harem, but it doesnât have the same mentality, than the other categories), where the MC just sleeps with about everyone from the opposite gender, and sometimes even with the same gender. These are the so-called braindead harems or the âI have a genital, and I want to use it to solve all of my problemsâ âharemsâ .
If it wasnât clear yet, I hate braindead harem stories, and I donât really like either version of the monogamy harem.
I donât really count fake harems as harem stories, so once I recognised itâs a fake harem, the story needs to captivating for me to ccontinue to read.
And gacha harems just have too many flavours to list each one if I like them or not. (Although Iâm certain I donât like the âhiding the partners from each other, and being afraid that they will notice each otherâ trope⌠It just becomes boring after a while, and the pay-off (if any) just very rarely worth the anticipation.)
