ATLA is just a good character driven show with a fun world.

I think most TV is a waste of my time but I also don’t think ATLA is that good

In fact I can’t think of a show I would say is Really Good in the way you say of ATLA

but i agree that most tv isn’t the greatest

tv shows tend to be infinitely better than this at movies for some reason (from what i’ve heard)
probably because movies are supposed to be a 2 hour long cohesive experience, and so most of the time when you make one you don’t actually have a sequel in mind – thus making virtually every sequel a retroactive “this was successful so let’s make more”
which naturally drags on the quality a lot, especially in a world with disney, and ESPECIALLY if the original movie tied together loose ends neatly

on occassion you do get the intentional sequel (doesn’t count) or the “I had concepts for sequels but i kinda discarded them cuz i didn’t think i’d be successful” which also work but

(whereas tv shows are already longer, and therefore naturally have more avenues to explore in a sequel that can be narratively interesting)
(ofc this is also not a rule. there are plenty of really really good sequels. it jsut seems less common)

it’s the only cartoon i had experienced so it’s all new to me, and one of my first times really watching television. it was comfortable and peaceful and the show is good enough to complete

I buy that could be true for big successes but I highly doubt that’s the norm on average

Korra I have more issues with because I think almost or just every villain is one that starts with like grounded material issue that is worth exploring, but then inevitably gets reduced to Evil that has to be defeated with the underlying issues insufficiently addressed then or ever again.

I forgot to add The Mentalist @Jane. Iirc I saw S1 and S2. It was enjoyable, but then it got very formulaic for me. Part of why i enjoyed it was the nostalgia for formulaic tv shows from my childhood i think. But then that faded away

Yeah that’s fair enough. It is the definition of the medium of a cartoon to you. I mostly am confused by the people who super highly praise it in comparison to other television/cartoons

I also thought She-Ra wasn’t any good either. In 8th grade I watched it and was like ehhh yeah whatever and my friend made fun of me for watching it, and then years later that exact friend was drawing She-Ra fanart. Eat shit Ashton

I did watch MLP FIM as a kid. Also thought that was garbage

Lmao

I watch a lot of TV for somebody who thinks TV is generally garbage. The thing is that everybody praises this stuff so highly and then I watch it and it’s like “this is a children’s cartoon”
