I don’t think spending my time watching youtube or scrolling the internet is any more productive than watching television but damn it grabs my attention just better. It’s a whole science. Attention retention
yeah your neurons are gone sorry!!
I watched ATLA and Legend of Korra because of their cultural significance, and I wanted to be able to engage with people (such as wife) who have seen and really love them. That’s a notion that often drives my decision making about what to watch. I watched Twin Peaks (well, I still need to see S3) because I wanted to know why I keep hearing people talk about it. I’m not even 100% there on that front, but I get a lot more. Revolutionary Girl Utena is sort of the same story. I wouldn’t have stuck it out if not for a desire to Get It, and I’m really thankful I did in that case. It’s okay if these shows aren’t like worth my time in a vacuum because I value having seen what other people have.
Well yeah if people are saying a show is great I want to see it, if they’re praising it and saying it sounds good I want to experience the good thing! And talk about it with them!
The reason I watch Adult People Shows now is because I have a girlfriend to watch htem with and this is a social experience htat gives us something interesting to talk about
FIM is just overhyped.
Most people don’t even know there were three other MLP series beforehand… (I was raised on series one…)
oh i was just rubbing it in that youre a social creature as all humans are and thus you’re fallible and will one day die to causes natural or otherwise and i will be there laughing
I was raised on G3 and liked it, but my sister watched G4 and I watched it over her shoulder
just finished madoka magica as required viewing for the mafia game

i should read the 36 stratagems in preperation for zones games

i think so
I think it has merit watching. Yeah id say above average
Madoka Magica is a show that’s difficult to recommend because everything about it worth merit is actively bad to talk about before being experienced.
oh like inscryption
Big thing on children’s shows characters: they are super, super easily reduced to a set of surface-level personality traits, in a way that is super off-putting to me. Like, FIM is an obvious example: there’s the Snooty Fashion One, the Soft Shy One, etc., very exaggerated. And the episodes are frequently one where they Learn Lessons, like there’s a “point” of the episode that everything is About. ATLA She-Ra Steven Universe etc all fall into these very children’s show-y tropes and I dislike all of them for it
i now feel i understand litten even less
I bounced off RGU for having waaay too long a leadup where the characters are similarly a list of traits and the episodes are similarly a Lesson
i watched atla because my family got a netflix trial for like a week during one summer. so we binged it.
we didn’t have cable
