the Atlas Paradox is also objectively the worst book in the series because it deviates from its purpose as a philosophical treatise and character study into some plot that is underdeveloped and slow and ultimately distracting from the intent of the books, which I think the 3rd book carries out best. the second book was a struggle but in getting to the third book I think it was worth it since the 3rd book is my favorite out of the three.
i’d rate them in order Complex >>>>> Six >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Paradox

(FoL scrolled up randomly like it does and I saw this and feel like responding)

Soaps are surfactants which are more complicated than just being lubricants. They allow water to mix with oil which is a pretty significant factor in allowing it to clean up after food or your hands if they get greasy. IIRC with bacteria it’s sort of similar where it makes the water bind to the bacteria more strongly than it binds to your skin. However, it doesn’t just magically slide off. If your hands are still wet afterwards, the water with bacteria can dry and leave them on your skin. Paper towels are actually more effective for drying your hands than those air dryers are because of the friction, and will reduce the amount of bacteria on your hands after washing on average. (Air dryers will also circulate bacteria that gets blown off hands around the bathroom. I do not like them as a concept.)

Soaps may have antibacterial qualities to them separately though which will make a difference if you’re washing properly. Like if you actually sit there and scrub with antibacterial soap for a couple minutes, you’re going to kill 99%+ of the bacteria on the skin. If you’ve ever heard to wash your hands using warm water, that’s because they’re just trying to get you to wash your hands for a longer amount of time. People wash their hands longer when they use warm water. That’s all there is to it.

Dish soap is chemically different than hand soap in some important ways that make the time factor somewhat less relevant, but that also makes it less suitable to use on your skin. It’s much harsher and lacks the moisturizing agents that hand soaps do. Using dish soap to wash your hands is going to dry them out and possibly cause irritation on repeated use.

The last fun fact is you’re basically never going to get all of the bacteria off of your skin. You’re just trying to reduce it by orders of magnitude. Using non-antibacterial soap and not waiting 2 minutes and air drying is going to be less effective but you’re still going to be reducing your risk. Any hand washing is better than none.
