at the point that you’re running phlog you might as well just use a decent secondary instead of the mann melter solely for extinguishing teammates

and run powerjack or the rake for your melee instead of stock*

jet lag the game is out!!

NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA happy birthday thbthtbthbthtbhtbthb

the specific problem is that for ursaluna-bloodmoon, in vgc, is that it’s a special attacking slow pokemon for usage in trick room

so you want IVs of 31/0/31/31/31/0 in HP/Atk/Def/Sp.Atk/Sp.Def/Spd. now, you can use gold bottlecaps to set a pokemon’s IV to 31 after it’s generated, but you can’t use one to set an IV to zero

making this even more awkward is that pokemon you can only get one of per save file are guaranteed to have at least 4 IVs of at least 15. So you need to hope it doesn’t hit Speed, and also ideally Attack (though that matters more for pokemon that are weak to Dark that Foul Play would actually fuck over)

this is possibly the singular instance in which hacking in the pokemon vgc scene gives you a meaningful actual advantage as opposed to merely saving time, because getting a 31/0/31/31/31/31/0 Ursaluna-Bloodmoon is unlikely enough to be basically impossible

this is why they should just have fully customisable rental pokemon in Pokemon Champions that can’t be transfered to HOME and have you be able to use them for VGC. that’s a solution that both embraces the fact that forcing competitors to play an entire rpg just to prepare a new team is silly and stupid and the fact that Game Freak cannot just endorse hacking

vgc as a format does have some genuinely cool shit! i like open team sheets, I like doubles, and I honestly don’t even mind the Restricted structure. but like

usage-based tiering is so much better it’s not even close

to be clear: doubles as a format does actually have structural flaws. while you fundamentally have more choices, the increased pace on account of having four mons on the field can reduce a lot of metagames to becoming just hyper offense

necessarily the reduced options of singles and predisposition towards more defensive strategies is a problem, which ultimately reduces things to a matter of taste. it’s just that the grassroots management structure for the singles competitive metagame is insanely cool

like it’s not perfect but the thing is that the real shit is actually in the lower tiers. OU is cool and all but there’s always some shit going on in UU

also smogon allows you to run mythicals and while that does mean we have to put up with magearna, Zarude and Mew are funny as fuck

and also singles lets you play old generations whereas vgc scenes die as soon as the regulation or series or generation changes with no reason for corporate to ever bring them back. And you can pry the horrendous hellscape of Gen 5 OU from my cold dead hands

There was an incident with a hacked Follow Me Magmar at worlds. You could only get it from Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness during a specific battle, and getting one with the perfect nature IVs was basically impossible. Someone using sophisticated RNG manipulation still spent 24 hours just reloading saves and doing setup, and that didn’t count the like 9 hours spent actually playing and beating the game (which you had to do to trade). Anyway, it was later proven to be backed for a variety of impossible features (the OT gender was female and Gale of Darkness’s trainer was locked male), but the combination of IVs/nature/ability or something was also just not possible.

There are so many instances where getting a decent mon sucks, and getting a perfect mon is not realistic. So, yeah Pokemon Company should make it easier to get mons for teams. I think being able to lower IVs would be a huge one. Like I’m a big fan of variance generally, but people will optimize the fun out of their experience if it gives them a percentage point advantage, so they need to just give competitive players the tools to sidestep that aspect of it.

think this is the weakest game design so far

it feels a bit more corporate this time too

ben seems a bit sad too which is upsetting

and theres a lot of waiting around so far

the transit lines are the weakest part of jet lag and basing a whole game around it, with super minimal challenges, is probably a bad way to err

I guess the implication here is that my boyfriends sister is some sort of robot or otherwise government plant, which I dont believe but cant prove 100%
