1/3rd of a foot is 4 inches.
A mile is 5280 feet which certainly seems like a random number, but wanna know what 1/11th of a mile is? 480 feet. 1/11th of a kilometer is 90.90909090… meters. Units of time are based in 60 and 24 for compelling mathematical reasons. 10 is just piss poor compared to 12 especially when you consider how frequently we want to divide things by 3 and 4.

You do not, but dividing something by 3 is something we regularly do and with more frequency than any other divisor except 2. Not being able to be divided by 3 without a repeating decimal is a significant blunder. The amount of time people spend each year dealing with the consequences of this would cost millions if not billions of dollars annually to put it into perspective.
