crime rate drops to 0 at night since they apparently initiate the purge

there’s no way they actually do it every night you could leave work late and now you run the risk of being mugged and hospitalized if you make eye contact with anyone

see they don’t even need an anti-homeless bench to dissuade homeless people from sleeping. since they already have the purge or whatever. but they do it anyway. much to be gathered about lumiose

5280 has prime factorization of 2^5 x 3 x 5 x 11. It was likely chosen for that prime factorization. My point is more that despite the imperial system’s many, many flaws, the units it chose do have a rationale for being what they are relative to each other. It is not a coincidence that there are 12 inches in a foot or 5280 feet in a mile.

The system doesn’t have a shared radix and the units are separated by a different factor, but commonly used units in the metric system aren’t separated by the same factor either. 10 millimeters to a centimeter, 100 centimeters to a meter, and 1000 meters to a kilometer. ā€œBut what about the decimeā€”ā€ no one actually uses decimeters, it’s not a common unit and the fact that the prefix exist is nice, but is missing the point I’m trying to make. The actual advantage to the metric is the factors all being the power of the same number (the radix) and have a prefix to indicate the power to be taken relative to the base unit. Yes, that is significant, and yes, that is nice, but the metric system is not a strict upgrade.

Metric better tbh

i know this makes logical sense but my small tired brain does not wish to comprehend it right now, so i’ll be lazy and move the dot

Mayyyy

Dividing by 3 generally comes up more than dividing by 5 does by several orders of magnitude, yes. I have gone out to eat with 2 other friends more than I have done so with 4, and it would be nice if we used numbers that had a radix of 12 instead of 10 for similar reasons because then dividing a value by 3 always terminates nicely. This is slightly tangential, but one of those things that I like talking about because I like numbers.

it would certainly be a net improvement, yeah.

I’m a contrarian so I’m naturlaly inclined to hear defences of the imperial system iut but all of the claimed relative advantages are so so small compared to the ability to just freely convert between everything without doing any math in every single application I’ve ever used a measurement system in.

Like not even in a ā€œthey’re comparable but metric definitely wins outā€, the whole ā€œeasily dividable unitsā€ is just not something that has literally ever mattered to me even once

I certainly think people are being kind of silly when they act like 5280 feet in a mile is completey arbitrary or a major inconvenience, most people simply do not ever interchange between feet and miles, but like, the divisibility of the number has also never once been a convenience to me whatsoever, I think people way overstate the benefits
