Iāll never understand why they focused so much on geography in middle school when we genuinely couldnāt give a fuck at remembering it vs highschool
in 8th grade I fortunately beat my younger brother at the school level (he got 2nd place and lost because he didnāt know how to pronounce Hokkaido)
thereās the occasional āthings that were already mentioned in the questionā wrong answer, usually on the third part of bonuses where i wasnāt entirely paying attention to the first two parts
(which meant that, when they gave the question orally, he didnāt know what they said)
i knew geography once but quizbowl geography questions are evil and i have a teammate who knows it better
they tossed up the karakoram mountains for high schoolers once and despite this being like 4 years ago i still associate the writer of that question with doing that

well that and in his senior year of high school he got bailed out by the protest committee on two separate nationals runs while not winning either
