i do think i have it down from working out the question on the sample test. normal matrices commute with their adjoints, unitary matrices have their adjoints as their inverses, and hermitian matrices equal their adjoints. unitary and hermitian both imply normal but normal doesn’t imply either and neither of unitary/hermitian imply each other. and also probably some other results i should learn by wednesday

you know i’m also taking a class called Advanced Calculus and commonly abbreviated as ACalc. but it’s just real analysis. and is nothing like may’s ACalc

you know i saw a wikipedia page recently (while looking up quizbowl clues, naturally) about some physics matrix and the opening paragraph described it as unitary (its inverse is its conjugate transpose), involutory (it equals its own inverse), and Hermitian (it equals its own conjugate transpose). and it’s just like, wow! how redundant! at the time i was just like “wow you don’t need to mention involutory” given that i was reminding myself of what the other two meant and i figured that part out from first principles (we’ve never used the worst involutory in class). but now i realize that any two of those matrix properties imply the third. omega redundant. oh wikipedia
