About the Rules & Moderation category (Part 1)

I tried to order cat objects for halloween and I accidentally used a card which didnt have enough money on it and now the thing only arrives ON halloweeen

nyaaaaaaaa but then that explodes and dies when you try to raise a number to an arbitrary real power

I’m going to raise you to an arbitrary real power

honestly we might’ve just taken exponents for granted. we’re not that philosophicalstyle

nyaaaaaaa IDK I kinda dislike exponentiation’s lack of a definition more than trig functions

I can hear hte ocean

i can hear creepy music thats been playing for like 3 hours

Is your sound real or is it fake because mine is fake

they definitely went philosophical style with the natural number exponents. and the rational ones. because those you can get away with being repeated multiplication/inverse multiplication. except he disliked when we used roots/rational exponents until we actually proved that those functions exist (as a result of x^n being strictly increasing on [0, infinity) for all n and therefore being one to one on that interval). idk if we’ve even come across irrational powers yet tbh

it currently sounds like lawnmovers windchimes and generic spook sound effects

i assume its a real noise because its really close to halloween and its probably a party

I assume mine is fake bcause per https://www.nileguide.com/ocean/ I am 100 miles away

yeah i think we only proved the differentiation power rule for rational exponents. genuinely don’t think we’ve seen an irrational exponent yet

nyaaaaaa yeah I see a ~reasonable definition for A raised to a rational power
IDK how to define A raised to a real power, except as a limit of A raised to a sequence of rational powers that converges to the specified irrational power (painful definition)

its now pirate music

also NYAAAAAAAAAA on the other side of the spectrum, my ODE class just brought in complex exponents and we just assumed everything works how we want it to

well yeah ODEs classes don’t really care about proofs

My ODE class is taught by a physicist and it shows

the only complex exponents i know is with e as the base, in which case they’re awesome
