I asked the room of people I’m in and they didn’t get it. They were between helium and hydrogen but it was initially said helium

it synthesizes so many unrelated concepts that just happen to have the word root in them and treats them as though they’re all different kinds of the same thing

I didn’t know most of the other uses so 
like sure. roots of unity are the same kind of beast as square roots. whatever. i can live with that. but primitive roots? digital roots? roots of polynomials (which have like 3 other names)? really?

okay more of a skill issue than anything but there are (at least) two sets of orthogonal polynomials named for frenchmen and i guessed the wrong one
