EIGENFUNCTIONS.

Eigenfuckyou

I do not want to do this problem

euler-lagrange? you’re just straight up doing physics

being exploited into doing physics! in what’s supposed to be a math class! for shame!

why do they say “functional” instead of “function”

oh functionals are like. a thing. idr what they are exactly but i think they’re distinct

oh
in CS these are all just called functions so this distinction is strange to me

well in CS they’re also called arguments and never variables. so maybe CS is the wrong one

:x:
that distinction exists because variables are an entirely different thing in CS, and they have to be

ALSO in the definition of functions as a subset of a cartesian product they say nothing about what the sets are (at least as I was taught it)

This is ACalc btw. We finally got to the part that’s not just Calc 3

and it’s physics!

your uni sucks i’m not applying for its phd program

(i had already made this decision anyway)

there is the idea of higher-order functions

but CS is sane so we still consider them functions

this answer would be less embarrassing if functionals didn’t come up today in one of my classes
