I know this topic is dead, but how would people feel about a BOTF Upick?
Players can choose their character for each type (Townsfolk, Outsider, Minion and Demon) outside of a few exceptions. Whichever type you draw, you become that character.
As an example, let’s imagine I choose the Mayor, Recluse, Poisoner and Imp (which I would never do). If I am selected as the Demon, I’d be the Imp; if I am a Minion, I’d be the Poisoner, and so forth.

When is Clocktower really balanced?
When I allow it 
youd need something to stop like. a town of 10 exorcists or tea ladies that makes it impossible for evil to win
on the other side, having a 4 psychopath lil monsta game also sounds like not very fun
i think that a rule i’ve seen that played really fun is “if more than one living copy of the same character are in play, all are drunk”

you also might run into circular shenannigans with outsider manip
youd need to rand the evil team first before deciding how many outsiders to rand
also make sure you know how to deal with roles like king/choirboy

you have to potentially kill the demon 6 times to win as good
and theres a DA
and on any given night probably more than half the players are protected from death plus a professor
it could be worse tho you could have an alch ET on top of all that
