There’s a mahjong phenomenon where you get a big hand early on and just get to play defence for the rest of the game while everybody else at the table fights over scraps among each other for second. And it feels like when you’re the king and you’re watching your three idiot sons battle over who gets to be your heir. And then occasionally you’ll deal in and lose first and that’s like being usurped
