I think if you’re writing something for very young children who haven’t had substantial experience with sexism yet, it’s ~reasonable to not want to depict it and inadvertently become an introduction, but you are kidding yourself, live in a bubble, and/or are a cis man who genuinely just doesn’t notice this shit if it’s not directed toward you if you think Avatar’s target audience have never heard somebody be sexist before
That’s doubly true given the show’s creators wanted to make this show a more mature experience overall.
[children’s show] handles [subject]
One of the reasons Sokka was an important character is that males 11-16 hear a lot of what Sokka heard growing up. Saying that it should be cut because young people watch is such irony
“Sexism is bad” is something you can’t really tell children if it’s Problematic to depict or mention sexism!
honestly 50/50 whether they do it at all well
avatar just does which is funny because a lot of its imitators very dont
if they wanted to make it a more mature experience then why do they keep writing dialogue that sounds like it’s targeted towards six-year-olds,,,
money
oh really? sounds like a wonderful lady
perhaps also as sharp as her blade may i suggest
Having the second episode that was actually pretty good for introducing sexism and then making fun of it
first episode introduced his sexism
second addressed it and then later parts of the show also repeatedly addressed it
i was watching a simpleflips highlight recently and saw lemres in the wild actually it was jarring
i forgot they were a character who existed outside of may
Frazor come out
Children’s show try not to mishandle the cycle of abuse challenge [impossible]
tbh I’m really curious what someone would think if they watched the show having never seen ATLA before and being totally unfamiliar with the plot, but that seems. hard to find
(technically atla spoilersthe first episode starts with events 100 years in the past, with Sozen’s comet + Aang chilling at the air temple + the air nomad genocide, and then it cuts to the present without telling you that they’ve done a timeskip for ?several more minutes?
and I’m curious how that choice would play with someone who didn’t know what was coming)
I was just thinking about how fucking stupid it is for people to go “to prevent children from being abused we need to strictly control their interactions with adults and ensure they’re always under Parental Supervision”. How is a child who is perpetually taught that they should always be under the control of adults supposed to tell an adult in their life “no lol fuck off” or report abuse or or or
Wait until you hear his voice and also discover it’s not a her!
Avatar did such a good job of showing that your decisions and thoughts have to mature as you age.
Sokka becomes more aware of women and their abilities.
Aang has to learn that his childish demeanor/world view isn’t appropriate in a lot of situations.
Toph learning to work with others, and that she has limits to her capablity
etc
joe biden would be a firebender because of the biden blast
