this is a total tangent but a thing that frustrates me about D&D worldbuilding is when people try to claim that hypothetical D&D people would randomly reinvent the exact system of legal rights that people accused of committing crimes in the United States have, and then apply them to truth magic
like “oh you can’t/shouldn’t just solve the entire justice system with Zone of Truth, obviously the Reasonable set of laws governing the use of magic in trials would allow anyone to decline to testify under truthspell, and refusing to do so would not be allowed to be taken as evidence of guilt”
like sure if that’s how you want to have your homebrew world work that’s fine, you do you, but. joycat
