if you decide to perform statistics on a field which doesnāt really have good metrics yet, like, say, machine learning and artificial itnelligence, of course theyāre going to spit out whatever numbers you want, itās very easy to manipulate data that doesnāt mean anything
this is also the case with psychology by the way. do not look up how abysmal the statistics in a lot of the most influential psych papers are

i am a firm believer in technological progress, and a firm materialist, but I think the advancement of technology is too interlinked with the entire rest of history for us to be able to do anything approaching statistical predictions regarding it

most of all, i greatly resent the whole of intelligence being reduced to computation, because i know for a fact thatās not the case
iām smarter than a computer because i donāt completely shit myself and die if a programmer forgot to include a bounds check on something
creates a theory about everyone being attracted to their mother

it doesnāt matter if the computer can do more computations per second than me if itsā thought processes are inherently rigid, and you canāt simulate the complexity of sentience by simply making something complex - it has to be intelligent as well!

what i find insulting about the current āArtificial Intelligenceā trend is that there seems to be an active effort to not understand the processes underlying the models, and to instead place those models further and further within a black box
because we donāt understand the nature of conscious intelligence, so therefore anything we donāt understand must be conscious intelligence. itās trying to create skynet through means of object impermanence

the issue is that you have millions or billions of nodes and no human is capable of understanding what they all do and why
then why the fuck arenāt you trying to understand them
