Diary (Monster mistery 0.5)

Part 1.

I’m Amaquelin, the queen of all medusae… At least someone wants me to believe I am. I’m not really sure what reality is anymore. I just have too many memories that don’t make sense. Some of them even contradict each other. Like some amateur writer made a backstory for me, but wasn’t satisfied, and remade it without erasing the old data. Sometimes I was living alone, sometimes with my parents. In one case I was living among humans, in another within a medusa tribe. But those aren’t important now. I learned to ignore those fake memories a long time ago, and simply using them as an information source.

My first memory I’m sure isn’t faked, that I woke up in a room with other people. At first glance most of them looked human except one lizardman and a dwarf girl. At this time I had only the memory of a single timeline, which hadn’t interacted with human younglings yet, so excuse my mistake from that time. One guy introduced himself as the “protagonist” and started investigating every simple detail of the obviously empty room. Protagonist, what a weird name to call your child… That’s not the important part, I hadn’t even realized when I left the room with the dwarf and another girl, whom I learned was a famished vampire in a few minutes. I would rather not share the details, but I can say the dwarf didn’t survive the interaction… That’s the fate of the weak. She obviously changed once she wasn’t thirsty anymore, but I didn’t want to take the risk. I helped her hide the body, but we parted ways afterwards.

I went back to the weird empty room, where after a few hours the protagonist - who made a longer journey outside- tried to interrogate me. From the conversation I learned he met the vampire after we parted ways, and she directed him towards me.

Some random guy overheard our conversation and wanted to attack me, just because I’m not a human. In the end I petrified him by accident…

The protagonist guy was concerned and wanted to know if I could reverse the process. Of course I could, but why would I? He just wanted to kill me, just because I am different than him… So I made up a fake story, how I should exchange my life if I wanted to do that. In the end he chose not to force me, and we explored the surrounding area together. The vampire girl joined our little journey once we met again.

In the end the protagonist guy told us, he can see different timelines and ours is basically a dead end… which made me think he was worse than the guy who wanted to kill me before. He just said we are doomed and he has no reason to try to save us… I don’t care if one other version of me is saved, instead of me… My emotions just went out of control, I had to run away, I couldn’t care who I affected my curse by accident, in the end one of them wasn’t petrified, and wanted to calm down, but he didn’t manage to do that before the protagonist catched up, and I directed all of my remaining hatred towards him… after he become the fourth statue, I managed to control my emotions and my curse so no one else was in danger anymore.

The next moment my vision went dark and I woke up in the same room, with mostly the same people. But instead of the protagonist guy, there was a girl, who introduced herself as Krystal. Her name made way more sense, than the guy with his weird name. But we couldn’t interact much, after she told everyone my name, and chaos ensued… Krystal got petrified, and I was killed afterwards…

My first death was quick and painless. I didn’t know how lucky I was at that time.

I woke up. I was confused. Didn’t I just die? As I looked around I was back, where I turned the protagonist guy into a stone. And there were more statues around.

The guy next to me still tries to calm me down and the vampire seemingly catched up to the protagonist guy only now. Seeing the statues she was curios what happened.

I needed time to compose my thoughts. But I said the only thing I could assume what happened.

“I just saw a glimpse of an other timeline, where I died… Didn’t he said it’s his ability?”

Silence.

“I mean what happened to them…” as she pointed at the statues.

More silence.

Summary

This concludes the part, which was played in monster mistery via the players from the viewpoint of Amaquelin [ms Lin] Honorable mention to @Zone_Q11 [protagonist guy] and @Leafia [Krystal] who gave me the inspiration to write this story

The first time I saw the thread title, I thought this was going to be the prequel. But then I remembered that we were playing “0”, so this is actually the sequel. (Yay!)

Here’s a brief behind-the-scenes about my character before he was named Darion:

I vehemently refused to name my character, so when I checked my watch and saw “Protagonist” displayed as my name, I decided to call myself [Protagonist].

The idea was that I would have Marluna alter that name through some perception alteration, so that I wouldn’t have to come up with a name while the other characters would still be able to call me as… whatever it is that they heard.

I didn’t think his name would be unaltered and instead heard as-is, but this in itself brings a rather amusing story from Ms. Lin’s POV.

[I have an explanation prepared for that interaction as well, but it will have to be wait until yours and Amaquelin’s timeline catch up. (I hope you remember there is a dilation between those two.) I’m planning to write quite a few stories with ms. Lin as the protagonist as part of this…]

This diary is planned more as a “between the cutscenes” stories rather than a prequel/sequel.

Part 2

I have quite a few names, since I am very old.

Or… If everything Lin is saying is true, I am based on something very old… This is still a crazy story. Philosophy was never my Strong suit there, but if I am just a copy, there are a few things would make more sense. One of those things, why I was so bloodthirsty, when I woke up in that room, when I have never killed any innocent during centuries, and Lin says I am doing that thing almost every time. But I ran too much forward… Let me start again…

Since I am very old, I have quite a few names. I called myself already Pyre, Luna, Moonlight, Scarlett, Wamp, Mary and Sting already, or a few combination sometimes. If it isn’t clear from my chosen names, I’m a vampire. And unlike others of my kind, I was always a vampire since my first memory. I don’t know how I was burn or made. I had no parent figures at the start of my life. One moment I just started existing, and I (probably) didn’t exist before that. But now I don’t want to talk my earlier days, this won’t help me now, since we are planning to do something crazy.

I think I need to start on the day, when I met Lin and Mika. (Well, he is named something else, but he reminds me a Mika…) It happened some time ago. Months? years? Decades, maybe? It doesn’t really matter, I still remember Lin’s nonsensical answer, that she glimpsed in an other timeline, when I was worried about the statues. Poor lad, she Will never forget that answer. Obviously because I always bring it up. when she is way too melancholic. Which happens a lot. It makes sense, to be honest. Wouldn’t you feel dreadful, if you had to die every few days, in the timeframe of multiple years…? Poor lad… I tried to dissuade her from the power a few times, but neither of us knows what would happen to this World, if she stops using it. I asked Lin, how others deal with the constant dieing, but according to her, beside the constant characters, the ones who brings the story forward happens to be there only a handful of times. Sometimes they do about the alternativ timelines, sometimes they don’t. There seemed to be only one guy, who Lin met more than a dozen of times, and based on what Lin told us, he called himself a compliteonist… or something like that anything that means. Lin clearly had a bit more fun, while he was around. But every good things end at some point, and that guy stopped turning up eventually.

Luckily, not only bad things came up from these visits to the alternate timelines. We learned a lot about our enviroment and the dangers, without endanger ourselves. Lin learned quite a lot about almost everything around here. Sadly after the two day limit, we can’t even leave, and this one somehow effects Lin in their alternative versions. It’s possible for her to be in those timelines for multiple days, or maybe even months, but the moment she tries to leave, she immediately lose control and comes back. She hopes those versions of herself leaves and live happy lives, at least what she tells us.

We can’t really foresee, when she leaves, but she comes back in second, independently how long she was elsewhere. If she was away long enough, she needs a bit of time to gather her thoughts, and continue our conversations. There are days, when she leaves multiple times, even before she realizes she is in this reality. This makes communication a bit hard on those days.

This one was one of those days.
The silence was a bit longer, than usual, but both Mika and me learned, this just means today is one of those busy days. Eventually Lin broke the silence.

“Where were we?”

“You Young lady need a vacation, even if it means we postpone the plan.” Or outright discard it, because it Will fail eventually, if you can’t concentrate.

“I’m not that young…”

“Even if we count your adventures on those other timelines, I bet I am much older than you… I didn’t exactly traveled in alternative timelines, but switching realities isn’t something a normal brain is capable of. Overcharging your brain with those stimuli isn’t healthy. While you enjoyed it, it was still fine, but this is already borderline torture for you.”

“But the plan”

“Both me an Mika are immortals so a few decades or centuries won’t matter that much for us. But you… You aren’t built that way, you will die eventually, and those centuries in the middle shouldn’t be this sorrowful.”

“It isn’t that bad.”

“Don’t lie to me… Mika how long are we stuck here?”

“I’m still not Mi… Nevermind. I would say, around three hundred years.”

“Three hundred years… If we don’t count your journeys, which definetly multiples your experience. At this point I would say you have more life experience, than all of your close relatives combined. And all those time your brain was overcharged every day… Even I would go crazy, if that happened to me. I think I even went crazy that way once, but it’s not that important. It’s about your mental health. We can finish in a few centuries even without you at this point. You probably need to make your story-driver take a few centuries off, so I can just hope you will end up with someone, you can live with. I wouldn’t even mind if you try to leave, but that would make our plan almost definetly fail,ó.”

"I have never met him in the other timelines, so I think I will just hope on ***'s jump. "

“I’m sorry, what?”

“Right, I decided to call him ***, since *** was just a not-name name, he probably just came up with on the spot. But there are multiple story-driver who came up with similar names, and I just didn’t want to confuse myself, who I am talking about.”

Right… Something definetly prevents me hearing those names. It’s a weird experience.

“Nevermind. So are you fine leaving? Do you know how?”

“I think so… About the other thing… Are you sure you really want to do that?..”

This is definetly not the first time we were planning what to do after Lin leave usm and I knew exactly what she was talking about. This was something even I am not sure how good or bad I am asking Lin to do.

“We talked about it. It was even the thing you made you so angry in the firsst place. She isn’t me… She looks like me, she talks like me, but you spent these three centuries with me and not her… and even if you spare her life, we probably can’t take both of you. In your place I wouldn’t take that risk. We are different people, but we still thinking the same way, so if I could come up with the plan, she probably could come up with a similar plan as well. She could even come up with a better plan, if she get the neccessary help from you, but we want you take a break after the help in these years, and it would be meaningless, if you just start a new project with new people.”

“You are right… I need a break… And… Even if it’s not you, I’m still sorry.”

She left with that sentence. And she won’t come back anymore. I just can only hope she can be happy in the following years. Although I lied about one thing to her. We don’t need centuries anymore, the plan is complete, and we can it execute it anytime, but she really deserves that vacation…It’s not the first time I sacrificed my time for someone else. And probably it won’t be the last either. I’m an immortal after all.

Now we just wait a few centuries.
