Event Announcement

Dear Valued Citizen,

Please note that the FoL Council is hosting an event today.

We are working on getting our newspaper shop up and running! We’ve already sourced most of the important features of a newspaper – comics, sports coverage, horoscopes, and advice columnists – but we’re missing the most important feature of all: the puzzles! We need your help to design fun and challenging puzzles to include in our newspaper.

You are invited to participate in:

Newspaper Puzzle Contest
Players: Unlimited
Chance of Death: None
Mobile-friendly: Yes
Duration: Submit by 12 hours after EoD (2026-06-22T10:00:00Z), solve by the night action deadline
Discord Access: Not Required
Other Notes: N/A

How to Play:

  • Design a puzzle/mystery/etc. of your choice! The puzzle/mystery/etc. must follow the following guidelines:
    • It must not require personal/unresearchable knowledge. For example, a puzzle could require the user to know the atomic numbers of various elements, which can easily be found with Google, but it could not require knowledge about your personal life.
    • The puzzle must be created by you. It’s okay if your creation is based on a classic puzzle, but you must still create the puzzle itself. For example, you could design and submit a crossword puzzle, but you could not simply find a crossword puzzle online and submit it.
  • You must include the correct answer with your submission. If feasible, please also include the information necessary to verify that your solution is correct. In the event that there are other correct answers beyond the one you submitted, we reserve the right to count those answers as correct as well.
  • Research IS allowed for both the puzzle design and puzzle solving phases. However, you may not use automated puzzle solvers to design or solve your puzzle.
  • Then, all of the puzzles will be posted in the game thread, and players will be invited to solve them. You can submit solutions for as many or as few puzzles as you like, even if you did not submit a puzzle.
  • The player who solves the most puzzles wins a prize. (You are automatically considered to have solved your own puzzle, if you submitted one.)
  • In addition, the player whose puzzle is solved the fewest times but at least twice by other players wins a prize. (So, if Arete’s puzzle is solved 1 time, May’s is solved 3 times, Ash’s is solved 10 times, and Zone’s is solved 6 times, May’s would win the prize.)
  • All solutions will be announced at SoD3.

How to join:

  • Submit your puzzle privately in your role card by 2026-06-22T10:00:00Z.

Reminder: You may not talk or hint about any ongoing events in any non-event chat, public or private, apart from your role PM.

Entries to the puzzle contest are now closed. We are pleased to present you with the submissions.

All players (regardless of whether or not they submitted a puzzle) may submit solutions to the puzzles. You may submit solutions to as many or as few of the puzzles as you would like. The player who submits the most correct solutions will win a prize.

Solutions are due by the action deadline (2026-06-22T20:00:00Z).

Puzzle #2

Broken apart Sudoku:

The usual 3x3 sudoku broken apart, and someone put it back together a bit wrong.
The middle cell of some 3x3 region were put in the wrong regions. (which means the cell in the second row, second column isn’t part of the top left region, and belongs to an other 3x3 region.)
The cell at row 2 column 8 belongs to the bottom left region.
There are still only 9 regions of the puzzle. (there is no hidden “10th region” or any other hidden rule beside misplaced middle cells.)
Your job is to put digits 1 to 9 into the puzzle, in the way that each number appears exactly once in each row, column, and original 3x3 region.

The following rules are helping in your solve:
Region sum line (light blue lines:) For each line, digits on the line have an equal sum N within each region it passes through. (every visit to the same region counts toward the same N total)
even number: cells with grey squares in the background must contain even numbers.
Ratio Kropki dots: Cells joined by a black dot must have a ratio of 1:2.
Arrows: Numbers along an arrow sum to the number shown in the circled cells.

Puzzle #4

Hey, I just “wrote” this poem to submit to the newspaper! It was inspired by some poets I was reading last night, but I’m afraid I don’t remember their names anymore. I’ve numbered the lines for your convenience. Hope you enjoy!

1 She walks in beauty like the night
2 Of beechen green and shadows numberless
3 With a fierce glance she sets her hair alight
4 Or brush-wood smoke in autumn, I confess
5 Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May
7 O the wild charge they made!
1 Yet knowing how way leads on to way
6 In fields where roses fade
1 When I consider how my light is spent
10 For this, for everything, we are out of tune
2 I cannot, but I am not content
5 Beneath the lightning and the Moon.
6 Split all ends up they shan’t crack
6 This downhill path is easy, but there’s no turning back.

NBA Grid!
Instructions:

  • Fill each space on the grid with a different NBA player from the 2025-2026 NBA season. Each player in the grid should fit both the horizontal and vertical criteria for their respective spot in the grid. While it may be possible that a grid have multiple people that could fill a specific spot, there is only 1 correct solution, because you may not repeat players.
  • A list of valid players can be found on these pages:
List of current NBA Western Conference team rosters - Wikipedia
List of current NBA Eastern Conference team rosters - Wikipedia
  • All Star games do not count as “playing with” a player. They must have been on the same team during a regular season or playoff game, and both had minutes in at least one game together.
  • Exact spelling doesn’t matter, as long as its obvious who you’re talking about. I don’t think any of the hosts Know Ball so you cant just submit pictures either.

    Good Luck!

Event Announcement

Dear Valued Citizen,

Please note that the the Ministry of Justice is hosting an event tonight.

We are thrilled to announce that Drawback Chess now exists on Planet FoL! We hope you will all partake in this extremely fair and balanced pasttime.

Additionally, being bad at Drawback Chess is now a crime. Anyone found to be bad at Drawback Chess will be jailed!

You are invited to participate in:

Drawback Chess
Players: 1
Chance of Death: Yes
Mobile-friendly: …possibly
Duration: Around 30 minutes or less
Discord Access: Not required but we can VC if you want to
Other Notes: See Warnings

Explanation of Drawback Chess and Event Info

  • Both players are given a “drawback”. For example, one such drawback is “Bishop Fan Club: You must promote to bishops. Your king and queen can only move diagonally”.
  • Other minor changes have also been made: For example, there is no checkmate, instead you capture the king.
  • More information can be found on the “How to Play” on the website, which is linked below.
  • If you win, you will be rewarded. If you draw, you will also be rewarded (but with a lesser reward). If you lose… well, I think you know what happens.

How to Play:

  • You will play Zugzwang on https://www.drawbackchess.com/, in a best of 3. (Click the rematch button to start the next game.)
  • The game will have a 3+2 time control (3 minutes on each side, 2 second increment).
  • When creating the game, I will set both our drawbacks to be of “Medium” difficulty (but beyond that, I do not know what drawbacks will be selected).

How to join:

  • Type /in to Drawback Chess. I have read the warnings below. in your role PM. The first player to join will play.

Warnings:

  • Drawback chess is an inherently unbalanced game! While the difficulty of each of our drawbacks will be set to Medium, it’s possible the difficulty rating is inaccurate, it’s possible one of our drawbacks hard-counters the other, etc.
  • Zugzwang plays a lot of chess! His blitz rating on chess[.]com tends to hover around 2000.

Reminder: You may not talk or hint about any ongoing events in any non-event chat, public or private, apart from your role PM.

BELLEOFAMHERST (Emily Dickinson is also acceptable)

Explanation

Solving Process:

  1. Each line is a quote taken from another poet (e.g., She walks in beauty like the night is by BYRON)
  2. Index into each poet’s last name by the line number (e.g., 1 Byron → B)

Puzzle #7

Answer

you win

Explanation

Very simple puzzles

jhdajxni - Crossword Labs

Solution to the Crossword:

Solving the crossword shows us that there are two duplicates of the same word, that being ‘Straw’ and ‘Page’. They both also intersect each other.

Strawpage is a site where you can make your own websites, so we can try inputting the title into a ‘Strawpage’ URL, and see where that takes us

JHDAJXNI.strahttp://jhdajxni.straw.pagew.page

Showing a key, a lock with binary coding, and a looping symbol with strawpage embedded in between, we can guess that this is a cipher (middle image) that involves loops and a key. This most certainly points to a Vignere cipher. Since strawpage is embedded inside the loop and the key, this implies that the key is the string “strawpage”.

If the puzzlesolver cannot figure this out, scrolling to the very bottom will say “s13g7p6”, which is referring to the ongoing Mafia Universe Championships Season 13 Game 7 Player 6, whose username is “Cypher” (we cannot get more obvious than this), implying that the string here is a cipher. (so they can also just bruteforce it or smth idk)

So doing a cipher of ‘JHDAJXNI’ with the key ‘StrawPage’, we get “romaninc”, and following the instructions of “maybe try again with another strawpage”, we will type in

https://romaninc.straw.page

This site will tell us that we have finally reached our destination, and that the final cipher is

“ndj lxc”

We are given no hints for this cipher. However, the site name is basically roman inc.

The most famous roman cipher is a Caesar cipher, so brute forcing the cipher with the Caesar cipher will let us eventually reach a shift of 15 (or 67 if you add 52), and let us reach our solution of “you win”
