also marl getting the character arc of being disastrously wrong all game to the point he became the consensus dvc tunnel, only to have his moment of redemption at the end is the perfect storyline for the game. gj on not being consumed by self doubt.

I think the main reason I tred marl was off how like, uncoordinated they were with the rest of the thread wrt reads even their misvotes were towny simply from lack of knowledge

oh right i should probably say other things

yeah this game was interesting! i’m surprised it went to f6, but i guess that’s fun. i think that while a few of the events are retreads over old grounds, those events were mostly loved and most/all of the new events were actually pretty good.

i don’t like fam6 tokens as an element of the game, and i think they tended to detract from it a bit more than they give. the process of gaining them wasnt really all that interesting, and some roles if you don’t have it you’re just locked out of doing anything which isnt fun. wolves can kinda self cycle into giving themselves it which is fine but i think it kinda made a few roles on the more boring side.

i dunno how hosting itself went but from an outsider look it seemed more composed than 5

my main thing this time though is the mech/flavour. there’s a lot of role flavour that didn’t seem to have super great thought into it, and others that obviously had great thought put into it. i think my role was stellar! it puts together a lot of stuff i like and incorporates my personality well! i also think, for example, icibalus flavour was really cool! it does kinda feel like a botc role! you’re right! apo’s flavour being a reference to hsr, whilst a little self indulgent, is good for her character.

but then when we get to things like squirrel’s role it’s um.

squirrel doesn’t like mtg that much, i don’t think. it’s just kinda a game he plays. and there’s a lot greater things you can do for him, like, you know, the whole month long roleplay game. and as i noted for his role: he doesn’t play the version where the cards these abils are made off of are legal. that’s not fun. it doesn’t really push for anything squirrel really does, it’s just kinda. tangentially related to squirrel, like it’s someone else’s idea hooked onto his role, rather than squirrel as a role.

something similar with marluna’s, which kinda upset me. this isn’t really a marluna role. it’s a zugzwang role. with marluna flavouring. i really think more thought should’ve been put into it, it’s self-indulgent in a very obvious way and I do not like it.

alright for something fun! mech this game kinda felt um. well there was some great ideas and there was roles that felt like there were being chained in a basement not allowed anything besides their scraps of +3 ita damage, or really weird and kinda negative utility at points. i said this during my longpost but a lot of roles had odd restrictions rather than making them more fun to play.
i think a fun restriction is kinda like marissa’s role. no the dmg it isn’t worth the damselor the active but it is a nice idea. it incorporates marissa as the resident funny nice, and daeron was a good person for it, even though it couldve been brought down if a less humourous player had it.
i’m not going to beat a dead horse by going over leafia’s role so lets pick… pigeon’s role. this is the non-factional anti-claim. i think getting 2 and 3 together is already a tall order, and getting 1 is just. dependant on if they claim it. when theres never really a point to claim your flavour. so as it is it’s just a way worse roleblocker contigent on a gimmick that you just have to hope goes right for you: i would prefer a 2-shot roleblocker, probably, to this. what it depends on subtracts from the role because it’s too hard to get, and the fact it can’t retarget is. bleh. i like the idea behind learning something you didn’t know before but i don’t think that will really ever be useful. no youre not learning the person you fumbled rbing is kp, they just won’t give you it.

i could kinda give more examples but. i made a longpost. on all the roles. and i don’t wanna repeat myself.
a lot of roles being held back by sorta meaningless or annoying stuff is. bleh. it detracts from the setup, especially cause their base counterpart really isn’t that strong. what is functionally a one-shot watcher getting pulled back by fam6 tokens (this is one of the easier to fix designs i think), or a neighbouriser being forced to be once every third cycle (blehhhh) and most of the roles that remain are kinda held back by their own design of being the vanilla+ roles, which whilst i know why they exist doesn’t make them fun. the roles tend to not be allowed to do anything, which i don’t think is all that fun.

it does still feel a bit rushed. less rushed than fam5, and although i can see all it does make me wonder what effect only two people (and that one role) working on the main draw does. feels like a bit of a burden, and i honestly think that’s what detracts a lot from the roles. i do think it’d be better if the work was spread out a bit more so everyone can put their own creative juices into the melting pot.

overall, i think this was decently hosted. zugbot was a nice addition to the fam party, i’m sure that helps a lot, and the few bugs might’ve been a bit of a problem but bleh.

um. i wanna end this positively because a lot of this was what i disliked.

i think there’s a lot of potential here. if some things went a different way, had more ironing done to their concepts, were themed differently, i think we could be on our way to our best fam yet. i wonder what it would take to reach that, though.
