FoL Music League

this comment may be mean but like. yeah idk i just dont see the point so im not gonna do it

if i submit something with a catfit that is a little more complex or nuanced or may need some backstory/context then sure that is worth providing context

but if it is literally textually obvious i do not feel the need to spell it out

it would be mean of you if you’re one of the people who said either “fuck you” or “i dont have to justify shit” and there’s no good way to pretend it isn’t

like I made no secret of my distaste for the categories’ extremely open-ended nature from last round

but there’s a big difference between that and actively insulting the person who made them and I think that line has been crossed here

yo whats up im tom york

yeah like
tbc theres a very big difference between “i think the song explains itself” and “fuck you for asking me to write something that explains how it fits the cat”

those are two very different statements. one of them is a personal attack and the other is not lol

i actually cannot comprehend how you would construe that as an active insult

simply expressing my pov

ish can bar me from participating if she wishes. you are free to not vote for my song on principle. but this is such a ridiculously silly thing to care about imo like if i think the song can be understood as a cat fit by simply LISTENING TO THE SONG then i should have the right to submit it without writing an essay it’s just a silly little game

i could see a reasoning of oh it’s a good skill to develop to write about your interpretation. but my counter is that it’s also a good skill to develop to interpret something on your own without having to be spoonfed an explanation. writing about music is fun! i like to do it! but this is also just a little thing i do on the side and sometimes i’m just going to send a song that i think of when i see the category and it’s going to be a pretty straightforward connection and being expected to write about it is a different kind of activity imo

it’s a good skill to develop not joining something where you’re gonna swear at the host because you don’t wanna play along with the thing you signed up to do :man_shrugging:

like sure technically it’s not an insult but cmon

i mean. i simply signed up to play music league. if the host doesnt want me to play then fine. but the prompt instruction was “as long as its catfit can be defended” which felt very unnecessary to elaborate on for my submission. i would lose braincells actively defending why that song is about an adventure beginning lmao it just feels…infantilizing and disrespectful of the song itself that it has to be “pitched” like judge it as a piece of art

and if you just said “I don’t feel like I need to elaborate” or some such thats fine

but the way you say something does matter and highkey you’re not blind to that fact

arguing this point is doing nobody any favors, yourself included - it’s pretty straightforward and the correct move is to just say “sorry for how I worded that” and move on

I’d want somebody to call me out on it if I said something like that and started defending it (and have had people do so in the past when I’ve been in similar spots). You may not be the worst offender here, but that really shouldn’t be the bar we accept holding ourselves to yknow?

well. in the spirit of intentionally saying something nice, y’all subbed really good music this round i do not have enough votes to go around

There’s also just me where I am kinda completely and utterly inept in that exact regard.
Like, there’s a reason why English, a class where I need to have coherent thoughts on a deeper level, is typically one of my worst classes performance-wise.

well that’s in fact the argument in favor of the rule my guy you should practice

You might as well be asking me to practice eating bricks.
