Tournament style
There is a deck with multiple cards, most cards have different values or rules, depending what’s on the card. But you need to figure out those by yourselves.
Goal of the game:
Solve the gamerules.
At the start of the game, everyone will learn 1 rule, different from others. (There are probably enough rules for everyone to have a unique rule.)
Please do not share your rules with others. (Unless otherwise stated.)
Gameplay overview:
Pairs are decided, games are played in different tables. (PMs)
Everyone get 5 cards
Everyone plays 5 hand (1 card each hand.)
Winner/loser determined after the fifth hand.
Players can guess before table disbands.
- Pairs are decided:
At the start of a round people are paired to play against each other. (First round randomly, afterwards trying to pairing players with the most points, if they didn’t play against each other already.)
Everyone will be playing at different desks 5 hands (DM/PM) here you are free to speak to your opponent about the rules you might know. (But only to your opponent.)
- Everyone gets 5 cards
During a round each player will be dealt 5 cards (from the same deck.) No cards will repeat itself in the same round among all players. (unless there are duplicates in the deck.)
- Round overview:
Each round consist 5 hands.
During a hand everyone plays one of the cards, they got at the start of the round. You are allowed to trade cards with your opponent (only your current opponent) in 1-to-1 card ratio, if you want.
Once both players played a card a player’s card either won, or if they didn’t win, they lost. But no one will know what happened. It’s up to the players to figure it out.
Once a card is played, it can’t be played in the following hands in the same round again.
Once all five hands are played, I will remind the players to take specific action, if necessary (based on the cards played during the round.)
If every action is committed, I will tell them which of them won the round. But I won’t tell them the overall score. Each hand you won, scores you 1 point.
Once they know who won, each player has two options: Guess their last round, or try to solve the game.
- Guessing the last round.
Either of them can guess how many hands they won in their last round, and guess a rule (beside their originally learnt rule and any rule they learnt based on this mechanic.)
If they are correct on either of them, they learn a new rule in private. If they are correct on both of them, they learn two new rules.
[I’m lenient on guessing rule’s wording, but I won’t give credit for half rules. For example: if the rule is circle loses to square, I will accept the guess that squares win against circle, but if the rule is circle loses to squares and triangles, I won’t accept the same guess.]
Once any player makes a guess no more tabletalk is allowed, and a table disbands. (The other player still can make a guess, but no more talking is allowed.)
Trying to solve the game: Once a player thinks they discovered enough rules, they can try to solve the game.
They can list every rule they think exists.
If they get less than half of the existing rules nothing happens.
If they get at least half of the rules correct, they will learn in private how many rules they missed/got wrong. (the number adds the two number together, so 1 wrong rule and 1 missed rule will result in a score of 2.)
If someone list every rule, the game ends and they win.
Otherwhise the game continues until everyone played every possible table. Once everyone played with everyone, the game ends. At this point everyone will be allowed to talk about their rules publicly (if they want) and will have limited time to give me a revised guess about the rules.
The players who get the most rule correct, (with getting the least rules incorrect) will win the game.
