Moral conundrum to distract any utilitarian: you have to choose between saving 1/2 of a baby, 3/4 of a baby, 7/8 of a baby, 15/16th of a baby, etc.
surely you should choose the largest available fraction? depending on how the fractions are defined, it’s either irrelevant (if the baby is guaranteed to be dead no matter what you do) or more survivable at higher fractions (e.g., losing ~any half of your body will kill you, but losing 1/16 of your body might be survivable)
quick they’re distracted steal steal steal
The idea is that there would be infinitely many options& thus no largest value
I agree with that
if you have infinite options you can just choose a large enough fraction that the baby will be missing less than 1 atom, seems like any further improvements are going to be negligible. this doesn’t seem like a very good conundrum
hey do you guys want arete’s phone too I think there’s enough time
Baby needs that one up quark to have a marginally better life (it is a bad conundrum yes)
I don’t think you have Romanian ethnicity to make those jokes, Atlas
