When I was in highshcool there was this viral bulgarian meme on facebook where three guys opened a fridge, the camera was inside it, pointing towards them. So from the viewer pov its like we’re in the fridge, looking at them, and they’re looking at the viewer. And then one of them says “woah dude what is this?” and the other is like “brooo what is this…” and then he says “bro i think this is a [homophobic slur]”. And then they go on for 5 minutes saying “wow i cant believe this is a [slur]”. “Why are you laughing, [slur]?”
There was a lot of outrage at it and critical comments. But not for the reason you guys think. There were negative comments because a lot of viewers felt like they were being called [slur], and they took offense, since they arent gay and didnt wanna be called gay. Being called gay was what enraged them, not the act of saying gay like its a bad thing. So they started flaming the creators, threatening to beat them up etc.
And then the creators said something like “guys, this video is intended to be humorous. Any negative comments will be DELETED”. They were trying to keep the comment section without negativity, a safe space. Nobody should be mean over comedy, right? So when I compare that whole dynamic to what I see from my american friends, their sorts of dynamics, the way people behave and think, I’m just so entertained. It’s just so funny to me. These two different dynamics and cultures are just comical when put side by side
