Bender (PhD. in linguistics and director of the computational linguistics laboratory at the University of Washington) has been vocal about the things generative AI should not be used for (generative AI being a thing she has spent her career studying), and has said she thinks it’s actively harmful to be used in education in virtually any capacity. (She similarly thinks they’re terrible for search engines.)
