a bit of a sad story but one of our classmates did karate because he got bullied a bit when we were like 11/12 but he just got bullied more because despite knowing karate he could only do very telegraphed kicks and he was so bad to the point everyone doubted his claim so he still got his ass beat

exercises, some moves, learnt their japanese names and learnt how to count in japanese until 20. older people probably sparred but i never did. there was some light contact exercises where we hit each other and blocked. mostly practiced submissions. but we were all kids with no power, it wasnt actual fighting. and karate itself has minimal actual fighting application, even for adults. karate is not respected in the MMA world

i dont respect it either, the best fighting style is running away and the second best fighting style is knee to the balls or fingers to the eyes
