・✫・Madoka Magica Mafia!・✫・ -- Game Over -- Homura & Madoka Win

I liked this setup, though it was ultimately rather simple. I thought its balance was reasonable, which I am able to say given I have mathematically proven it. The Vigilante claiming was an extremely impactful action where the village’s fate was in the hands of one player, but the game was balanced around them claiming anyway, and they could be easily narrowed if the rest of the village claimed.

There was a consistent flavor through-line to make it clear that the resets were mafia-aligned: the host (and all non-italicized text) was Kyubey, Homura is the magical girls who “turns against” Kyubey, and Homura is the one who resets time. This got confused by the Homura alt, which was not an expected part of the game, obviously.

Other than that, I have no further commentary on the game that I can currently think of.

Here was the flavor for town winning:

Summary

(Posted if the wolves lose.)

“…why can’t I win?”

“If I go back again, I’ll only make Madoka’s destiny worse… then in the end, everything I’ve done…”

"It’ll all be for nothing."

Five. Four. Three. Two. One.

Five. Four. Three. Two. One.

HOMULILY ARRIVES.

Homura Akemi has fallen to despair and become a Witch.
Destruction has been released onto Mitakihara.
The Magical Girls take up arms against it, but…
As the sand scatters across the sky…
M
…none of their efforts are enough.
A
Walpurgisnacht and Homulily attack.
D
There is only
one person left
to stop them.
A
“Madoka…”
“I couldn’t save you…”
E
“I’m sorry…”
HOMURA
HAS LOST.

Thanks to the Magical Girls, the Incubators have found a source of power great enough to delay the heat-death of the universe immensely. As Homura falls to despair, her dance with Walpurgisnacht destroys everything they touch… and the only one left to stop her is Madoka, who sees the ruin left behind and falls to despair as well. The two halves of the hourglass unite, and the sand that fuels them falls into the waiting hands of the Incubators, who collect the energy and move on from the ruins of Earth.

Failure.

She failed.

We won. The universe won. The lives of two girls are no price at all to pay for all of reality to be sustained. Remember that.

Silencer: Target a player: they cannot speak in the game thread or any private chats during the next day (even across time). You cannot target the same player consecutively.

You may not know it, but somebody has been working in the shadows to save you. Your mafia partner, Homura, knows the following:

★ You have the power to go back in time. Walpurgisnacht will arrive on Night Two. Madoka is the only one who can defeat it, but you cannot allow her to sell her soul to become a magical girl.

★ Before the end of Night Two can be processed, you will go back in time, completely resetting the game to Day One, including hiding the previous thread and reviving all dead players. The number of mafia members executed on the previous loop will be announced publicly once this happens.

★ You, the mafia, bear the knowledge of the time loops alone. Nobody else knows that the game will reset until it happens.

★ Someday, you will succeed. You must succeed. If you have not lost by the time Walpurgisnacht arrives thrice, you will win. If both mafia members die before Night Two, you lose. If you would lose during the first loop, you may immediately reset time to prevent a mafia loss.

★ You may swap your rolecard with your mafia partner’s at any time (though this does not swap your fakeclaims). If a mafia member dies, the living player automatically becomes Homura.

★ Dead players become Witches with compulsive, anti-town abilities. They leave the main thread and join the Labyrinth, a closed thread where they may speak to each other.

★ Each night, the mafia may guess a player’s role (provided you did not learn it through a mechanical revelation). If you are correct, you gain permanent access to the ability they’d gain if they became a Witch, stored across resets.

★ The mafia may use one Witch ability each night. Witch abilities cannot be roleblocked and appear to investigatives under the name of the Witch who performed them.

You win if a mafia member is alive when Walpurgisnacht arrives for the third time.

anyways shoutout to the fact that if we played our cards poorly the final cycle would have had 6 ICs if you count the vig (I do)

arguably our single biggest flub was voting beancat and guaranteed a cycle 1 zero but man beancat was posting sooooo bad

yeah and shoutout to dia for being the only player who was socially townread - not an innocent child and not poe

Wolves win a wolf sided setup? Imagine my surprise.

You would be forced into a situation voting-wise equivalent to a final-five with one clear and three tree-stumped villagers (one would be silenced).

Not excellent, but you had a large information advantage and the numbers on your side. You were starting from a mathematical 70% chance to win.

if first 2 kills are town then wolves can just distance and win but this would also be usually true in mountainous with no resets so

From my perspective what really really stunted me was the lack of being able to backread beccause early game i (and others) tend to skim and shitpost and then get hard solving later by rereading eod wagons and interactions. I do think if we had previous threads and could read we’d have been much more likely to get the world.

Half of what I was saying was from vague memory.

i was two-timing with another game where i was wolf during most of the first cycle so i wasn’t paying as much attention as i should have been

The setup was mathematically more townsided than 9v2 mountainous.
