Odyssey to the Fortress of Lunacy - Game Over - Conspirators Win!

You would consider that it could be truthful or false. You would gauge the persons reaction and make a social read. This is social solving, what we do in normal games. What did mech solving do in this fictional scenario? Did you do any mech solving in this scenario? Is there another scenario that you could tell me about where mech consideration is a thing? As in, like, what would you do, and how it would help you. Doesnt have to be my ability

I’m saying “think about the mechanics, think about how they reflect on the players, consider it when you’re making reads”. Meowl handled the role reveal in a towny way. It didn’t feel like it consulted wolfchat on the matter. That’s a mechanical read. It’s not 100% reliable and shouldn’t be blindly trusted, but it takes mechanics into consideration.

If I give somebody a killing item and they don’t claim it and there’s an extra wolf kill that night, it’d be reasonable to wolfread them. That’s a mechanical read. It’s not 100% reliable and shouldn’t be blindly trusted, maybe the kill came from somewhere else and the item didn’t give through, but it takes mechanics into consideration.

If I got a redcheck on a player who’d fully claimed a role and they said “oh I was a miller and didn’t say BTW”, it’d be reasonable to wolfread them. That’s a mechanical read. It’s not 100% reliable and shouldn’t be blindly trusted, but any reasonable player while claiming their whole role would’ve also claimed they were a miller. It takes mechanics into consideration.

This is a social read. You made the read off of meowls posts.

I typically hate/scumread activity excuses but ive had a 2 hour one way commute to work for the last couple of days so by the time i get home it is quite late

and im playing a discord maf game w carbonated and ash among others rn so my attention is divided

I have solely been posting on phone bc im too dead to get on my laptop which means i havent really been able to iso

I plan to work from home friday tho so ill have more time tmrw night to make reads

Mech informs social reads.
We can’t trust mech to straight-up give us the answers, but we can analyze how people respond to the purported mech.

Specifically, gummy, I think you’ve made a lot of promises of content (quoted below) while your actual content posts are all either hedgy or restating things that have been already said.

Summary

eyes glossed over anything with more than 4 lines automatically

Yeah I just didn’t get on my laptop today; i thought I would but I didn’t have the energy lol

It’s also a mechanical read. It would not exist without the mechanics of the game. It is based on an innochild announcement.

You’re using a definition of “mechanical read” that is not the same as the one I use. And it’s also not the same as what I’m used to seeing whatsoever.

For example, you could have used the Innocent Child reveal on a contentious slit to generate reads, to see how people would respond to that slot being “confirmed town”.
We’re not asking you to blindly trust mech, but that doesn’t mean it’s inherently useless. We can find meaning in how it shapes discussion.

Meowls ability created a situation where we socially read it

Im not saying to not make social reads. Maybe i just got paranoid that people would blindly trust town IC reveals in a bastard game. Perhaps unfounded paranoia, i dunno

It remains true!

question mark why did you do this

for some reason you using an exclamation mark there also scares me

Ok, I think this is just a miscommunication.
We’re not townreading meowls for the clear in and of itself; we’re townreading them for the use of their ability in a towny manner with solid progression to back it up.

Also, even pure-mech reads like greenchecks and innocent child announcements aren’t useless just because they can be wrong.

Take a hypothetical: a role that goes “cop, but you roll a 6-sided die, and you get a false result if you roll a 1”, players this role greenchecks are still >rand town and players it redchecks are still >rand wolf. There’s still useful information there.

I don’t expect this game to be so bastard that mechanical revelations are all =rand.

You keep implying that there’s no way we can investigate this information and take it into account without blindly trusting it. Mechanical reads don’t mean “hardclear a player forever”, it can mean “if you’re torn between executing two equally wolfy players and one is greenchecked, go for the other”. It can mean “avoid executing a player D1 becuase they have good mechanics going for them”.

You’re thinking in an overly black-and-white manner here. You’re acting like people in this game are… frankly, a lot dumber than they actually are? You’re acting like townreading somebody off mech means complete, 100% blind faith. People can make nuanced reads, they can take things into consideration without blindly following them.

Frankly, I’m slightly insulted by it
